In 1979, a five-feet-one-inch, eighty pound sixteen year old girl would become the first school shooter in United States history. Brenda Spencer would open fire on Cleveland Elementary School, wounding nine children and killing two adults. Her assault would be the first of many school shootings across the nation, most notably Columbine and Sandy Hook. The media and public began looking for answers as to why someone would commit such a horrid act. The response from Brenda was callous and flippant. She hated Mondays. But there had to be more to the story than that. Monsters are not born, they’re made. This is how the monster was created.
Yeah, I understand the sentiment, Brenda, but why didn't you just go back to bed and start over on Tuesday?
More true crime porn, but is it really necessary to refer to Brenda's family as "inbred hillbillies?" I can't think of any legitimate crime writer who would that. Oh Well! So Brenda made history as the first school shooter and apparently nobody remembers her. But then girls aren't shooters, only shootees, so why should we remember her? I actually like this little piece of porn since there's no justification for the murders offered and apparently never was except grand schemes that lawyers and shrinks come up with. Hey, Brenda hated Mondays. Yes,people are murdered for no reason and Brenda Spencer was batshit.
This is very quick reading, only giving a short background to the young girl who became one of the first school shooters in the nation. I didn't realize this was part of a series, so I was disappointed when I quickly got to the end. This segment didn't seem to relate much of the turmoil of such a tragic event; it simply throws out a bit of information about the young girl and the event that put her in prison, serving 25 years to life. The most interesting note was discovering that this shooting was the basis of the song "I Don't Like Mondays" recorded by the Boomtown Rats. The song conveys much more emotions than this story did.
Another short book that would have been made a lot more interesting if it had more detail and was longer. I never heard of this school shooting before though.
