Contrary to common belief, charisma is not something you have to be born with. While some people are naturally charismatic, the ability to develop and maintain a charismatic persona in your business and personal life is a skill that can be learned. In her book, The Charisma Myth, author and consultant Olivia Fox Cobane outlines the different types of charisma and exercises that anyone can use to develop them, turn them on and off at will, and use them effectively. In addition, she points out the negative side of charisma, especially when it leads to those we affect to share more of themselves with us than we’re comfortable handling.
Instaread’s Summary of The Charisma Myth by Olivia Fox Cobane is a good overview of the book, discussing its key points as well as analyzing the author’s style and credentials. As always, Instaread books are a great resource for busy readers who would like to beta test a book before buying.

Today I learned that charisma is not always something that one is born with. Moreover, it is a character trait that you can teach yourself, provided that you have all of the pertinent information to do so. This quick guide gives a run-down on how to achieve the proper level of charisma without coming across as a narcissist.

"The Charisma Myth" destroys the false idea that charisma is an inherent trait. Instead Olivia Fox Cabane looks at how you can build your charisma so that you can have a powerful persona in business and your personal life.

Instaread looks at Cabane's self-help book and makes it even easier for the reader to be impacted by these suggestions. This summary includes 12 highlights from the book in a concise read. Much like an extended blog post, this abbreviation of "The Charisma Myth" is a fun and insightful way to pass the time during your commute. I highly recommend!
