Amber’s just seventeen, but wants to die. With no chance of remission, she’s tired of pain.
Regret makes her even more miserable. She’s never been in love. Never had that first kiss. She wants to know what it feels like.
When she asks her mom, she’s so bitter about her own past, she refuses to answer Amber’s questions. About men. About sex. And most importantly, about what it’s like to fall in love.
Then Amber meets Ryder, and everything changes. He’s exactly what she’d hoped for in a guy. Funny, smart, kind, and better looking than any actor she’s seen on TV. When she’s with him, she forgets her pain. He makes her want to live again.
There’s just one problem with her newfound love. He exists only in her dreams.

This book grabbed my heart from the opening pages. It's more than just a story about a young girl facing death; it's about first love, the relationship between a mother and daughter, and finding hope and courage under impossible circumstances. I was struck by the way Amber handled her terminal illness. She was not so much afraid as she was bitter and impatient. She was extremely likable and sympathetic, yet not perfect. She is a strong character with understandable flaws. My heart went out to her mother. For her to watch her child suffer, and know she couldn't make her better, and that she was going to lose her...I just can't imagine. But rather than making her some kind of perfect, angelic, self-sacrificing being, the author gave her flaws as well, and there were times I wanted to shake her, but I always felt sympathy for her. I cried a million tears, but I had a few laughs as well. Regardless of how the book makes you feel, you won't soon forget it.
When I picked the book I read the blurb and I was probably expecting some tears to go along with the story – but when I actually read the book I dove in blind because it had been on my kindle for some time.
Imagine my surprise when I found the second tearjerker in one week.
While there are slight paranormal tendency’s in this story it is not really a paranormal one. Yeah I know #cryptic much – sorry.
And while I am at it – be prepared that you might have a HEA or you might not have one – depending the way you look at it.
Well written and well developed … have your tissues ready and dive in …
What a wonderful Read!! This is a must read to anyone that lost a spouse or child before their lifespan. I believe in Heaven and seeing loved ones that have gone ahead. This is so real and is a real help to anyone still grieving.
This novel is thoughtful, emotional, and surprisingly unpredictable. When I started, I expected a simple plot with an obvious end. However, it kept me guessing until the very last moment, and threw in several surprising plot twists by the end. If it seems slow at first, definitely stick with it! Although Amber is terminally ill, she has an endearing amount of spunk and attitude. She cares for her mother and best friend, she fights to know about her past with her dad, and she clings to the concept of love. Although her romance with Ryder, the boy in her dreams, advances quickly, it is the kind of sweet romance that leaves you warm-hearted. Amber and her mom earn sympathy, but also have real and relatable flaws. The end had me jumping between tears and smiles. It might be a story about a dying teenager, but it is also a story about love and hope, and it's definitely worth the read.
I wasn't sure what to think about this book at first. I mean It's a YA about a dying girl. I wasn't sure that it should be a YA. I like to read books to make me happy not sad and I think there is enough sadness for young people out there without thinking about dying. BUT then I read a little further and I am so glad that I did!!! My final thought on this book was everyone should read it. Yes the girl is dying but I think the author did a great job of explaining and showing how frustrating the whole process would be. I can't imagine living through something like Amber and her mom had to go through. The story does give hope to those left behind that something great awaits for those passed and for the ones still stuck here! Overall good Job!
I got this book in a goodreads giveaway and I'm very glad I did. The ending was what got me the most. It wasn't really that expected, but as it neared the end I was able to put pieces together. The ending of Ryder and Amber's story was truly beautiful and so magical. The epilogue is where it really hit me. The conversation with Amber's mom and the guy was really unexpected, but so wonderful I just loved the added part. The whole story kind of takes a little while to get it really moving, but once you're really into Amber and Ryder's relationship you just can't put it down.
This book was an emotional roller coaster. I felt blissfully happy one moment and was bawling my eyes out the next. I really felt connected to the main character, Amber, and enjoyed sharing her ups and downs. She really did feel like a real person, a person with dreams and desires but also problems. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult romance.
This was such a sweet story. You know from page one that you're in for a tear jerker, but the author still manages to leave you smiling the whole way through. I thought this book was a unique twist on the typical cancer book. Loved Amber, loved Ryder. Somehow, in an impossible situation, this book will leave you hopeful.
