This study does more than simply restate the respective positions of the Lutheran Church and Roman Catholic Church of the 16th century, it also examines the pertinent materials of our generation on the same issues. Preus clearly explains where Lutherans and Roman Catholics have equivocated and in the process presents a succinct and honest evaluation of the current Roman Catholic doctrine of justification. It also evaluates some of the various efforts of Lutherans and Roman Catholics to reconcile their differences and achieve consensus or "convergence" on the doctrine.
Pretty thorough explanation of justification. Jesus lived a perfect life, suffered an innocent death, and was raised to life for our justification. God declares us "not guilty" for the sake of Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf, even though we sin much, both in our corrupted nature (unintentionally) and intentionally. We now have peace with God through Jesus' work. Listen to this book here: https://christforus.org/NewSite/index...
A beautiful presentation of pure doctrine. A must-read for Lutherans, and I highly recommend this to all others. Preus clearly analyzes the doctrine of justification in historical Lutheran and Roman circles, as well as its treatment in modern dialogues.
It is a well-reasoned defense of the doctrine justification against the recent statements that came out from the dialogues on justification between Catholics and Lutherans. My one criticism is he puts justification ahead of union with Christ. Biblically speaking, that is inaccurate.
lot of clarification and explanation on justification. A lot of good insights into the particular differences between, especially the Lutheran Church Missouri F.
