Barna Trends 2017 provides a wide range of statistical information related to the interaction between Christianity and the larger culture and society of the United States.

My criticisms of the book are:

1. The information is repetitive. You can scan the graphics for the majority of the information presented textually. Furthermore, the information contained in this book priced at $29.99 is available for free via Twitter and other online outlets.

2. The information is not accompanied with sufficient analysis. For those who need help connecting the dots, Barna research does not do that (in my experience), which seems to cut across the purpose of providing such information to what I presume to be the intended audience: leaders of evangelical Christian entities (which is not to suggest that particular demographic needs more help than the general population in connecting the dots).

3. The book includes several advertisements for other books, as if paying $29.99 for information available for free elsewhere isn't enough. The reader ought to buy all their other books, too.

4. Not all of the information is new and noteworthy. For those who regularly read sociological studies (including Pew Research, Gallup polls, and other research), Barna Trends likely will be unnecessary duplication.

These are a few of my criticisms.

The breadth of information available in one place paired with its graphic presentation does lend Barna Trends to being used as a quick reference.
