Angel Hunts is the first mind-blowing book in the Soul Forge series of dark urban fantasy novels. If you like fast-paced plots, new twists on timeless mythology, and a touch of romance, then you’ll love Leslie Claire Walker’s magical series.
Since the age of seven, Leslie Claire Walker has wanted to be Princess Leia—wise and brave and never afraid of a fight, no matter the odds.
Leslie hails from the concrete and steel canyons and lush bayous of southeast Texas—a long way from Alderaan. Now, she lives in the rain-drenched Pacific Northwest with a cast of spectacular characters, including cats, harps, fantastic pieces of art that may or may not be doorways to other realms, and too many fantasy novels to count.
She is the author of the Awakened Magic Saga, a collected series of urban fantasy novels, novellas, and stories filled with magical assassins, fallen angels, faeries, demons, and complex, heroic humans. The primary series in the saga are the Soul Forge, set in Portland, Oregon, and the Faery Chronicles, set in Houston Texas. She also authors stories for The Uncollected Anthology on a mission to redefine the boundaries of contemporary and urban fantasy.
Leslie takes her inspiration from the dark beauty of the city, the power of myth, strong coffee, whisky, and music ranging from Celtic harp to jazz to heavy metal. Rock on!
The main character Night is a former stone cold killer. She left The Order of the Blood Moon (a group of magical assassins) and now they are after her, because you don’t leave the order. You just don’t live to tell, normally. But Night doesn’t want to kill anymore. Years ago she rescued Faith and took her in as her daughter and now she does everything for her.
She still cares about the woman she was in love with in her killing days - she was one of the killers too and brings her bad news now. But can Night trust her? She has learnt not to trust anyone. And then there is Red, her boss. How does she feel about him? And he about her?
It is actually very complicated. The Order is after her, the Angel of Death, there is her former lover, the Watchers, The Awakened. Who to trust? And is everyone who she thinks they are? Will she run again or will she stay and fight?
She also has a personal battle to fight. At the end of the book you can see her growth.
It is a dark book, but there is light. It’s well written and really suspenseful. About halfway through the book it’s a rollercoaster of action.
This book doesn’t have a cliff-hanger, but there is a clear opening to book #2: there is a war yet to come, between humanity and evil magic.
I received this book for free from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review, as I am voluntarily reviewing it and my opinion is entirely my own.
Interesting enough story. Of course it's been done before, but this one was fairly well done. Don't know if I'll read more in the series or not, but it's certainly interesting enough that if I run across the other books in this series in my travels, I'll certainly give them a whirl, though I doubt I'll go track them down for the express purpose of purchasing them.
Loved it!! This is the first of the authors books that I have read and what a great start to what I think is going to be a brilliant series.
The characters were lovely, even the bad guys were kind of likeable lol. Some of the abilities used are well thought out and written in a way the reader can fully comprehend what is happening.
Night has taken care of Faith for several years now and they have spent that time forever looking over their shoulders. They are going to make a stand this time.
I became hooked within the first few pages and read till I was finished as I did not want to put it down.
Really great writing by the author. Now need to wait till the end of June for book 2. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after receiving a free copy from the author. See less
