Stella and the Star People

Rate this book
One important mission. Great danger. So little time. Stella is brave, fearless and visually impaired. Her Star Quality gives her night vision, as she travels the Universe along with her Star Guide, Rocky to rescue the Star People in danger. Stella must rely on her emotions, senses of hearing and touch to identify the colours she comes across in her adventures. In this action packed fable, Stella and Rocky along with the help of the mighty Star Warriors go on an intense and gripping adventure to save the planet of Mars. Can Mars and its Star People be saved? Or is it just too late? Many children do not understand disabilities. Likewise, many parents are not sure how to explain impairment to a curious child. This book gives insight into what visual impairment is from a child’s perspective, in a natural but imaginative way, and at the same time portrays the disabled child in a heroical manner. It may be a source of inspiration to those families or children who are learning to deal with impairments.

Wow! This book is in no uncertain terms, a good read! For younger children, it has engaging graphics that tell their own story, and for older children, a definite vocabulary builder that inspires creative thinking and a sense of purpose. When a book can transform a disability into a gift, it is worth reading. And this author has so ably and effortlessly done so. I look forward to part 2.

A cleverly written narrative which showcase the tenacity of a little girl who is visually impaired. A creative way to teach my child that she can be fearless and kind like Stella and not let a disability nor an obstacle deter one from accomplishing great things.

This book teaches its readers, young and old, to celebrate the gifts we each have inside. Sharing a young girl’s adventures from the view point of visually impairment is very unique. Very colourful illustrations and very engaging story. my niece loves Stella!
