Great chronological and geological survey of Art Nouveau. Amaya gives an interesting broad perspective on the artists relationships and inspirations, although I cannot help find myself moreish for something that wasn't there. Specific influences, techniques and poetic descriptions of the artworks would not go amiss in this essay, and provide my peckish gut a little more warmth for what was a cold book, whose glossy pages bit my fingers with each turn. The pictures seem disjointed with the text, and even when relevant are half asked in representation- if it was the writer's expectation to compensate with what lacked in image in prose, it surely failed with paleness and prosy. My favourite of the Art Nouveau artists Hector Guimard was not given the respect he deserves, a mere three pages of assault, which left me gawking and blinking with rage. Rage. The book was somewhat informative, three stars.
A nice overview of the art nouveau movement. I don't know anything else about the movement so no idea if it's an accurate representation of it, but this one came up in a couple of library searches so it seems pretty popular. Lots of pictures, mostly black and white, not too hard to read, not bad as a jumping off point for further reading into specific artists
