A Dream in Red Mansions, originally known as the Story of the Stone is written by Cao Xueqin, and it is one of the four ancient classics in China. Because of the social environment and handwritten copy spreading, only 80 chapters are kept and there are a large number of editions. In the popular edition with the last 40 chapters written by Gao E (or Anonym), Cao Xueqin's original ideas have been distorted greatly and the ancient version has also been modified, especially the end where Family Jia was falling without doubt, but it was reviving in the continued version. The book is a great work with high ideology and artistic quality. On the basis of artistic sublimation of the family's rise and fall, the author conducts profound criticism of feudal examination system, marriage freedom, hierarchy system and social ruling thought.
