Missing by Peggy McAloon is the second book in The Lessons from Fiori series. I had the opportunity to read and review the first book from the series, Elle Burton and the Reflective Portals.
The story follows the first book. JJ, Elle’s baby brother has been kidnapped. Elle just came back from Fiorin after she saved Pegasus’ life. It’s up to Elle, Jimmy and the fiorins to find a way to keep JJ safe against the Zorins.
Elle Burton, is one of the chosen guides whose mission, alongside with the fiorins is to keep children safe. I liked her better in the second book. She seemed more mature, although I understand that she really is still young (I’m not used to have main characters who aren’t in their teens yet.) I think a brand new side of her was shown since she already felt the weight of the world on her shoulders with so much that’s happened in her life lately.
I honestly liked the second book more than the first. The action part wherein they’re trying to find JJ is thrilling and exciting. Well, I mean, it kept me at the edge of my seat. I worried how the baby would be treated and kept safe. The zorins are creepy when they attack. They inhabit a human’s body, possess them and make them do things against their will. They’re like evil ghosts.
The pacing of the story is just right. I saw the characters in better shape. The different powers/skills/talents of the fioris were just amazing! I was honestly waiting for them to use it, lol. The book isn’t just about JJ’s kidnapping but also portrayed new beginnings and second chances.
It was quite magical. Missing showed the beauty and how important family and friendship is in our life. Overall, I rate Missing by Peggy McAloon, 4 out of 5 stars! I totally recommend this to readers especially to middle-grade ones!
I have received this book from the author herself in exchange for an honest review.
Elle's adventure as a guide to help children, designated by the fairyfolk Fiorin, gets to a news level as her baby brother J.J. is being kidnapped during a fair in her hometown. She and her Fiorin friends do everything in their power to get him safely back to her family, but she also is in danger as the evil folk of the Ziorin have set their eyes on her. This is the second book of the Elle Burton series and it gets more and more interesting an loaded with tension and unsuspected twists. The plot is well developed, absorbing the reader from the beginning, as well as the characters, the reader had the chance to get them know quite well, especially the main characters showing her inner turmoil as the events unfold. It has been an enjoyable read.
Missing by Peggy Mcalon and Aneeka Rogers book Review : Missing is the second book from the lessons of fiori series , comes after the first book ,Elle Burton and the Reflective Portals, with 240 pages the author represented to us a splendid masterpiece full of suspenseful and curious events . The book follows the last event of the first book , Elle’s little brother JJ has been kidnapped by a woman that was inhabited by a Zorin. She went to Fiori to ask for help from mother blue taking with her friend Jimmy who wasn’t supposed to be there . A couple of gifted and talented fiorins , Elle , and Jimmy were ordered to keep JJ safe and guarded from the zorins . I liked the second book more , the mission of saving JJ was more thrilling and exciting , Elle experienced a lot of serious affairs and the weights on her shoulders were just getting bigger , at the end of the book she looked more mature and fully grown although her age was just eleven . Despite the fact that the main experience was JJ’s kidnapping, a lots of other events were present to embody friendship , love , family care , patience , and faith . The author’s description of the fiorins and the zorins was ideal and perfect so we can exactly picture their physique and their different skills and talents . I totally recommend this marvelous book to readers especially for middle-grade , Fantasy and coming of age genre fans ,it’s a well written book showed how powerful love is between family members and friends . HOPE YOU ENJOY READING IT .
Elle and the winged warriors from the dimension of Fiori get together to save JJ but they find out more are in peril. Little did Elle know, she would encounter extreme wickedness. Elle has been delegated to hold onto the magic pendant and the scrolls revealed that magic can only be let loose by the child of the prophecy. With time running out will Elle and Jimmy succeed at their mission? This wonderful tale is certainly exhilarating and jam-packed with escapades as well as astonishing happenings. Peril, excitement, uncertainty, hideous creatures and brave fairies are just the tip of the iceberg. Author, Ms. McAloon’s world building glows, and she has a sparkling, vivid imagination. Young and old alike will enjoy this can't-put-down read. I hope she continues her storytelling skill with more outstanding reads.
We were really scared during a lot of this book. It totally kept us on the edge of our seats! It was so suspenseful, our ten year old Princess almost wanted to run up to her room and hide in a few parts. (If you have a very sensitive youngster, you may want to stay close by while listening to the audio version.) Every time I told the children it was time to stop for the evening, they all begged for another chapter. Even the 25 year old kept asking how things were going and what was happening when she would come in from work. Our whole family was so wrapped up in the story!
It kept me on my toes. I always wanted to know what happened next. I love what the writer portrays and encourages in the series; having a good heart and doing selfless services for others. Elle challenges us to be kind and empathetic. I look forward to reading the subsequent series talking about Elle's life as a guardian.
‘Lessons from Fiori’ is an absolutely engrossing and enchanting read, with believable characters from a different dimension to our own. Mother Blue and the Fiorins were so easy to visualize while reading this magical tale, and it was impossible not to fall in love with them. The sickening threat of having your child kidnapped in a public area is every mother’s worst nightmare. ‘Missing’ portrays every conceivable emotion in a gut-wrenching scenario that brings people together in strength while uniting unlikely allies. The concept of ‘human guides’ working with miniature guardian angels to keep our children safe is literary gold. Peggy M. McAloon and Anneka Rogers both show imagination which knows no bounds, in order to bring a story of ‘fairy tale meets reality’ to the reader. I thoroughly enjoyed the second book from the ‘Lessons of Fiori’ series and plan to seek out the other titles in the series for my own library at home. I recommend this book to all readers 12 years and older who enjoy mystery, drama and intrigue served up with a huge dollop of fantasy, magic and love.
Second book as good as the first! My favorite character is Elle, a young girl ready to take on challenges to rescue children from injustice. Girl power at it's best! Some paragraphs in this book brought tears to my eyes with reminiscent memories and other times those tears were empathy filled for those who have suffered or are suffering from all forms of abuse and injustice.
It is my hope that readers become more kind and empathic towards others, so that this world becomes a better place; forever kind.
I would recommend this book series to parents of toddlers, to remind them, that raising children with a "kind heart" is easy if taught by example.
I was gifted a signed copy of this book, because I was not eligible to win one in an on-line comp, the Author very kindly sent me one. The story is a very well written story about a little girl, 'Elle' and her friend Jimmy 'who is my favourite character' Elle's baby brother was stolen by a disturbed Lady who is fighting her own demons. Time is vital but with the help of the Fiori (every child has their own Fiori)of which Elle and now Jimmy are child guards, the story flows well and is two dimensional. A must read for all.
Missing is the second book of The Lessons of Fiori series, JJ the younger brother of Elle was kidnapped by a Zorin, so she must go back to Fiori and seek the help of Mother Blue, she brought her friend Jimmy with her to save her baby brother. I love how well-written this book is, especially for young readers, the book is teaching us how to be patient, strong, the importance of friendships and of course, never giving up. I certainly guarantee that once you started reading this book, you won’t be able to put it down.
Wow,wow what an amazing book,I couldn't put it down. There was too much pain though for Elle in this book and a lot of growth. She really had to grow up really fast and thanks to Amadeus, she was saved because, after all she's still a child. Please get your children this book, its awe-inspiring.Big ups to Peggy.
You cannot imagine how delighted and awed I am by this book. Peggy did a wonderful job in building the suspense, throwing in a little curiosity, and a bit of everything else. The sequel is as good - if not better - than the first book. Incredible! I can't wait (and hope) for a book number three.
This time in Missing, the story continued with Jimmy that was pointed as a guide. He even got his own Fiorin and right after the appointment both of Jimmy and his Fiorin went back to the fairgrounds, the boy was so determined to help Elle to go through her problem and he did by accompany Elle and her family until the problem solved. And to help finding out and getting back JJ Mother blue, the leader of Fiorin, sent two warriors of Fiorin who have unique ability to help Amadeous as soon as they found out JJ’s location. It’s good that Eunie Mae as JJ’s Fiorin was with him all the time, and with her own ability she would be able to keep JJ safe.
In Missing, Zorins’ works were more prominent, more than one Zorin came out to confront Elle for they were afraid that the girl would fulfill the prophecies. They were the reason why JJ was kidnaped, by entering the woman who was in grief for losing her dear son.
All the problem that happened for the past years started to weigh Elle down, losing her dad making she has to push herself to be in charge of her mother—as she was still in grief—while trying her best to be an older sister. And with JJ’s kidnapping, she started to lose faith in herself as guide and in God. All those insecure, fear and angry feeling in the end became the biggest obstacle.
Not only focus on Elle, in this book Jimmy got his share of responsibility as a guide. He is a nice, silly and brave young boy. I love how he always trying his best to help other, and to be a good guide even though sometimes he said offended words or even complaining but he still finished his responsibility nicely. I cracked a few times for what he did and sometimes I shaking my head at him. I also love when he confronted his bully brother in nice way, without anger or grudge then make a piece.
Missing is the second book by Peggy McAloon in the Elle Burton series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first book and I was afraid I wouldn’t enjoy the second. But I was totally wrong! The story actually got better! This is a coming of age book that would be great for children, young adults and honestly anyone who enjoys a good book. I love how this book series addresses issues we forget children also deal with and how much they know and are aware of. We all want to protect our kids and yet stuff still happen beyond our control and Elle’s story is a perfect example of this and how responsible we can raise our kids to be. Her story is sweet, thrilling, full of suspense, laughter, a bit of edge of the seat moments and all the good stuff. I recommend it for the whole family. The lessons are priceless.
Missing is the second in a series, Lessons from Fiori. It is a sequel to Elle Burton and the Reflective Portals. Elle is determined to find her kidnapped brother. She teams up with fairy-like creatures of Fiori to rescue and save him. It's enjoyable reading....I especially like the role Elle played in attempting to overcome flaws and inspire children everywhere to always have a kind heart.
