This book has cute illustrations. It requires editing, as the author consistently used capital letters for dialogue tags, as in: “Snow gear,” Echoed Adam, and sometimes two or three words are used when one would have worked better. The sentence structure is simple, on a child’s level, but some of the words might be a mouthful for the new reader (when the kids get “accessories” for the snowman, for instance). There’s nothing really poetic in the phrasing to capture the reader’s attention. A child will probably enjoy the pictures more than the story. Great children’s literature captures many of the elements of adult fiction (plot, character, poetry) on a child’s level (how, I don’t know; I admire children’s authors who can do that). The story in this book doesn’t manage to do that, but with the pictures, it may be a pleasing enough read for the child who loves winter and is excitedly anticipating playing in the snow. The point of the story, I think, is to show kids they can work together and independently of adults to accomplish something. My kids are a little too old for this book, but this is the type of book that, at age 2-4, they might have liked paging through but not necessarily having read again and again.

Note: I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I would give this book top grades for many reasons. First, it provides the example of sibling cooperation, Adam, Gabi and Abigail use cooperation and teamwork. Second, they decide to build a snow-woman instead of the stereotypical snowman. Third, the illustrator, Milena Radeva draws adorable black children providing racial diversity in children's literature. The story is a simple one; the children each take part and describe the building process. Mom watches from the window, praises their creation and offers hot cocoa when they are finished. There are a few minor grammar and formatting issues, but the book is a gem for preschoolers and early elementary school children. It also makes a cute bedtime story when snow is in the forecast or your child is longing for it!

My Snow Day by Ally Nathaniel
Illustrated very colorful children's book about a snow day.
Gabbi, Abigail and Adam wake up and notice all the snow and collect all their clothes they will need to go outside.
When they get out there they all stick together and help one another to do some fun things, even make a snow woman.
They are very proud of what they did, together. Very simple concept for kids to grasp.
I like this book because it allows the child to image a day outside even when there is no snow yet.
Author's other works are highlighted at the end of the book along with her bio.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

This is an absolutely adorable story that I will cherish and enjoy for years to come. I fell in love with the illustrations. They were colorful, vibrant, and just really enjoyable to sit and look at. This will be a book I will read to my niece when she is older. I recommend this book to parents with children. This book will have children wanting to have it read several times to them and will become a household story for years to come.
