A brilliant hotshot read!

My eyes had been bloodshot scarlet reading this book without a single break!

A psychological thriller!
Tragedies!
More tragedies!

I have thoroughly enjoyed and have been haunted with this read!
The narration is incredible, the flow with which it goes, won't leave you until you read it all.
Justification with each character has been done fantastically.

With the sinister voice author narrates the story of Malvika Chauhan and her 'friends' from the first line of the book with fineness.

In the midst of such mystery, tragedy and suspense, it made me cracked up when Margarita Christian says that she went to school but never learnt anything because she intends to teach people a lesson!

I've hardly saved myself from engrossing in it, asking my Ritu in every half an hour so she gives me permission to tell her its story but she'll always ask me to avoid this topic in front of her to find it out for herself and only I know what it has taken in me to stick to her condition!

The author increased the level of expectations since the starting and promised to be a treacherous, haunting and bleeding read and so it proved to have been enough!
Shivering with fear and disgust while reading Malvika's past in the middle of the night, those pages didn't let me sleep until I reach to the end

My mind started urging me to contact the author to know why Manorama was Bengali, why Mili won't talk to Malvika in the starting itself, what happened to Malvika, is she okay and how much?

I'm afraid that if I'll write one more word in my review about the theme in this book then I'll be giving spoilers!

So man, put the damn phone down and get this book for your bookshelf.

Final Say : Couldn't have asked for more!

Immensely Bold and Explicit to draw attention towards a social cause

First of all a huge thanks to the author for sharing me a copy of his book to read and review

To be honest in the beginning of the book, I had almost given up on the book because it was riding on the plains that I was not at all comfortable with. The book seemed to be bolder, mature and adult without any particular reason and to be brought into the very beginning didn’t set on a good impression with me but towards the second half I must say the book changed in a way that I didn’t anticipate and from being a work of fiction it went on to become enlightening and after finishing the book, you feel like having learnt some very important truths about the core theme of the book.

The book as described in its synopsis deals with human psyche and the author does it at two levels. Initially he eases the reader with light approach towards the topic and completely in a subtle form and it is later when you have actually journeyed through more than half of the book that the author takes you through the complexity of the theme he has chosen for the book and this is where as a reader one has to maintain their patience and concentration because the things shown and said requires deeper views and moves into complex levels. This is where the meat of the book lies and if you get this portion then you would totally understand the book

I think it was clever of the author to pick up the theme and the story base he had used to make the readers aware of an important topic that he aims his book at but at the same time, am I impressed with the treatment? Yes and No . Yes I like how he used a character and story that you would find in your daily life and through the character’s eyes tried to educate the reader. NO. because I am not sure whether the bolder, sexier and raunchier was truly a necessity for the book or it was just a tool used to spice up the book but apart from these I would truly say that the book had a good message to it and for that one reason I find it to be perfect.

The language fortunately is smoother and simpler which is I guess why such a complex theme is able to resonate in the reader’s mind with ease. Narration technique is not as perfect as one would want it to be because in the beginning there are times when the narration is playing to and fro. Like revisiting a same scene after explaining it more vividly but that sort of breaks the continuity too.

It’s the first half that you would want to sit tight and wait for it to get smooth as towards the second half when everything starts sort of making sense, you find the book moving really fast and holding your attention tightly.

The book totally justifies its theme and at the end achieves the purpose of drawing attention of its readers towards a great cause and that in itself should be considered as a great achievement for the book. Language is simple and clear. Narration has its ups and downs but in the end does support the flow of the book. So with a thriller backdrop the book runs fast and by the second half it is totally gripping.

Scarlet Nights by Mayur Patel – A Must Read

Scarlet Nights by Mayur Patel is a psycho-thriller that goes a step ahead. The story is about Malvika Chauhan. Gradually she settles down in her life as a reputed businesswoman in Mumbai, finds the love of her life, and is quite happy with the two to stay associated for the rest of her life. All goes well until one day Malvika meets, or rather encounters Margrita Christian. That brings a powerful blow in her personal life to an extent to take it to shambles.

Scarlet Nights by Mayur Patel is quite engrossing and will keep you engaged with whatever keeps happening in Malvika's life. The story is powerful, so are the characters drawn to drive the story. Malvika designs her life to lead it in a better way after she finds Shikhar Malhotra, the ultimate love of her life. This helps her in forgetting two breakups that became scars of her life. Shikhar's entry in her life not only healed these scars but also brought a lot of happiness and security in her life. And one day she meets Margrita who knows every bit of her past that even Malvika had forgotten. With Margrita coming to her life, Malvika starts wondering why she does not remember certain things of her life. Along with Margrita, she also meets few other strangers who have stayed with her to help her as and when she needed in dire consequences.

Scarlet Nights by Mayur Patel will force you to think about the difference in your behavior at different instances, or for that sake difference in your behavior for the same instance at different moments. It is mindbogglingly engaging story that drives you to introspect about your own personality and behavior. I loved the story and its engaging flow. Do read this book that will help you understand the world around you better (including your self). I would rate it 4 out of 5.

First Impression: The title, cover, and the blurb is an instant attraction indeed. Pick-worthy novel with a winning plot. I love psychological thrillers and was so excited to read this book.
The story revolves around Malvika, just another Mumbai based businesswoman who is happy with her life. And, then Margrita happens! Read the novel to know more, because, I seldom spill spoilers.
Scarlet nights is a well-knitted novel, the alignment of scenes-chapters and the twin thread running along is commendable. A nail-biting experience precisely! Author Mayur has done a great job with respect to the story which demands some brave attempts.
Wow Factors:

Plot
Language, and diction
Editor has done a good job indeed
Fast-paced and well-knit chapters

Rating: 4/5

Scarlet Nights by Mayur Patel is a riveting psycho-thriller and leaves you with a feeling of wanting more. The story starts slowly but soon pulls you in. The book tells you a heartbreaking, fascinating and absorbing story of a young and beautiful woman. The novel revolves around the life of Malvika, who is living both a successful and happy life. She has been running a successful business in Mumbai. She has also found the true love of her life and there are plans to take this relationship further in the form of a marriage. However, everything changes when Malvika meets Margrita. Her encounter with Margrita not only destroys her professional life, but also her personal life. Margrita knows some of the well-kept secrets of Malvika’s past and disclosure of these secrets will ruin Malvika’s life for sure. Will Malvika be able to escape from these insufferable circumstances inflicted upon her by Margrita? And, who is this Margrita and why is she trying to create trouble? Read the book to know the answers of these questions. The answers of these questions will take you to a world of intrigue and wonder.

Scarlet Nights is a highly complex and many-sided work of art. However, there is simplicity in this complex work of art. In fact, Mayur should be complemented for handling the complexity of the plot so well. This work is imbued with depth and complexity, with sincerity and conviction, in depicting the internal turmoil of individuals in our society. The writing is simple but powerful enough to keep your attention. Plot twists are really good. While the story could have been more thoroughly dissected in terms of psychology, the story-line maintains a good pace and directly heads into the heart of the plot and these two things essentially makes up for the lack of psychological investigation. I also feel that some aspects of the plot were oversimplified or were made more dramatic but this also does not take away anything from the book and were probably necessary for making the story more gripping. Most importantly, the book forces you to get emotionally attached with the story-line.

The story of this book will baffle you, depress you, appall you, and seriously entertain you in the process. The prose we are referring here is dark but also beautiful. Two central characters of this book (Malvika and Margrita) are sketched beautifully. When you read about Malvika, your heart will go out for her. When you read about Margrita and her mannerism, your heart will burn with anger. However, your same heart will also root for Margrita in the end of the story. And, this is what makes this book a wonderful read. This delicately written story covers different dimensions of human feelings and you will definitely praise the author at the end.

A brilliant and engrossing read, Scarlet Nights will shake your thinking cap really hard. I think everybody should read this book just to understand how hard it becomes to live peacefully for some people even though it was not a fault of their own.

I started reading ‘Scarlet Nights’ immediately after receiving the soft copy of this book from the author himself, for I had loved his first book ‘Vivek and I’. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that this one is way too different from V&I. ‘Scarlet Night’ is an incredibly written novel. It is a gripping story of a young, beautiful, successful woman who, one fine day, starts experiencing bizarre happenings of… well, even a single more word would give away the secrets of this terrific tale, so I better stay away from disclosing the plot.
The thriller aspect of this book is wonderful. Every page turn is another exciting development. The characters are incredibly, disturbingly real. They take the reader along on a tremendous journey into the human psyche, which is layered with astounding facts and secrets. The suspense gets disclosed Layer by Layer, Bit by Bit and concludes in a very satisfying climax.
Like one character in the novel says, I abso-fucking-lutely loved this Novel. 5 out of 5 stars for this Chilling Read.

Review of Scarlet Nights authored by Mayur Patel.
Review by - Fredy Ilaviya (author of Walked Away With My Soul).

Scarlet Nights is an enigmatic read characterised by fewer but significant characters. The story starts with a satisfying, high-flying life of the protagonist Malvika who has her independent business, a fiance and a bright future ahead - all woven in the city of dreams, Mumbai. All goes well till she discovers the dark side of her life - something which she neither wants to believe nor to disclose to the world.

And it is associated with one Margarita...

The story takes violent U-turns, to the point of scaring you at times. But this doesn't deter one from closing the book. At no point. What happens between Malvika and Margarita... well, read it and discover yourself.

All in all, a perfect movie material.

My verdict:

Characters - 3.5 on 5.
Plot - 4 on 5.
Story continuance - 4 on 5.
Blurb - 4 on 5.
Ending - 4 on 5.
Title - 4.5 on 5.
Overall - 4 on 5.

Scarlet nights is one engrossing read. A short 220-page book that would leave you wanting more.

Even when you read the first chapter of the book, you find yourself sucked into the world of Malvika. The writing style is excellent, the author has managed to set a good pace throughout the book.

The story line is fresh and leaves the readers on their toes. Every time you feel you know the story, it changes!

While there were minor grammatical errors, all in all, the story and the twists were such that the book can easily become popular.

The characterizations were quite impressive. I loved the character of Malvika, she was this strong, independent woman with a mind of her own. She owns her own business and has managed to create a life on her own.

The story of Scarlet Nights, overall is very unique, bold with an ugly and an agitated narration. The build up of the story is good, but a bit far stretched until the first twist comes into the picture, the story becomes interesting after the initial 70-75 pages. Just when you think you know what is happening, there is a twist that completely changes the situation. The story will make you question one's behavior in different situations, it is fictional yet appears very real with a message that will make you realize why we should prioritize the human in everyone of us. There is a constant juggle between human emotions and their apathy which makes this fictional psychological thriller a must read.

A pretty interesting and different novel. Though I had to keep away the book twice due to my hectic schedules, my mind was pretty eager to know what happens next to Margarita and Malvika and Manorama and Tutu and Manav. Every aspect of the novel is well thought of. Every scene is perfectly described so much that it feels like everything is happening right in front of the eyes.I must compliment the author for his perfect language and a flow which keeps the readers like me glued. I must also compliment the publisher for ensuring perfect editing and proof-reading. It is indeed difficult to find mistakes

wow! wow means really wow!! this book amazed me! extremely well thought out plot. brilliantly etched characters. no nonsense. no clichés. not all thrillers make your heart race, keep you on the edge and at the same time treat the emotional aspect equally well, ‘scarlet nights’ does it all. so i definitely recommend that you take a plunge into this psychological thriller. SCARLET NIGHTS is amazing..! The author has handled the complexity of the plot so well… All the questions that rose in my mind while reading this novel came to a satisfying conclusion… Everything made sense… ALL the characters are carved so fantastically… I must congratulate Mayur Patel for bringing out such a marvellous story… Who says Indian authors aren’t as good as the westerners in writing thrillers! Take a look at this novel and your opinion will change for sure…

This is what I call a Perfect Thriller! The pace. The plot. The Characters. The Emotional Aspect. Everything is balanced here. & it’s the imagination and the quick narrations in this book that’s astonished and dazzled me. What a gifted writer Mayur Patel is! The way you etched each character left the readers no choice but to bond with them inevitably. I am looking forward to reading your upcoming books in the future.

Indianised version of Harley Quinn :

Phenomenally thundering personalities with a detailed descriptions and a well planned plot ,Mayur Patel has done an enthralling story with a dense and deep writing in each page .No amount of artificial strain has been employed up by him just a cosy flow of drafting lines and vivid font selections.Italicised fonts to spotlight the chief lines .

A fourteen hour haunting read with a traumatised atmosphere and some lumps
over the throat , while getting to know about margarita and her horrifying maniacal habits .A villainous sublime in her made her outcast more than the other leads .she was a splendid performer and her sheroic traits made me go awe .Game played up by the human brain is the most toughest one to be played up by anyone ,the unboxed mysteries and hidden secrets with a piled up illusionary images it forms, is an alluring trap which seduces us to fall for it and scarlet nights is one of the game where the rules are just meant to be broken.A two twenty one page turner is just a movie to be seen up with a never blinking eyelashes ,the descriptions and the well penned book is a perfectly architectured read .Each characterisation has much details and a keen insight .Fabrication of the character Malvika is a beauty with brains and the key factor of the story .Shikhar was the shouldering passionate boyfriend typo ,he stealed the show even though his appearances were so mere in numbers comparatively to other characters .Manav and tutu was so adorable ,and each of the other characters were so unique in their very own natures ,like Manorama .surmounting the harshest phase of life ,the vigour shown by Malavika is an applaudable one .Struck between the thread of reality and surreal circumstances ,potraying brilliance while enquiringly about her own state in a more witty statement, framing it in a way that no one will doubt her is the best part of intelligence shown by her .A hard story line with the more courageous characters.Flaws are too difficult to be spotted up .No logical errors or spoilers. No printing errors nor blemished letters from half baked publishers .Header of the book was liked by me since I felt it shows the spooky and horrifying nights ,which is a connect factor between the lead and the negative figure .The cover by book bakers is decent enough to create the vibes of a thriller .After a continuous amount of monitoring I did not find any mistakes that was so unusual form my side .Totally it's a read to be read for thriller fanatics and people who love Heath ledger and Harley Quinn .

my rating is 3.5

A voyage through the deeper crevices of mind, Scarlet nights is a Psychological thriller. The plot starts with the life of Malvika Chauhan, who leads a trouble free, exciting and perfect life. Her days become nights and nights full of nightmares when she starts to have blackouts for hours, unable to do what she did in the meanwhile. Only person who could help her is Margarita. Once Malvika meets Margarita, instead of detangling the secrets, her life becomes messier.

Author has taken great care in maintaining the suspense element throughout the story. Nevertheless, the connection between Malvika and Margarita becomes more or less obvious in the initial chapters itself. The idiosyncrasies of Malvika and the give and take between the two women seems exaggerated in between but author has justified it in the last chapters. Since it is a thriller, I am unable to disclose more. It might end up as a spoiler.

Major complaint I have is about the narration, especially in the initial chapters. While dealing with such serious and deep subjects the narration could have been more regimented. The title Scarlet nights seems perfect in the first half but towards the second half the color Scarlet loses its significance. The cover image is good and reflects the whole mood of the book.

Hardcore Sydney Sheldon lovers might find the book dragging since the book has lot of similarities with 'Tell me your dreams' by the author but lacks pace. Nevertheless in comparison with the thrillers by Indian authors, the book definitely stands out.
I recommend the book to all Psychological thriller lovers.

It's been a day that I've finished 'Scarlet Nights', but it's revolving around my mind again and again. I mean suppose you are leading a normal life. Every morning you wake up, have a cup of coffee while sitting in your balcony, and start with your normal routine. You drive to your office and greet your employees with a smile. You attend all the necessary and work oriented calls. You have a boyfriend who loves you like anything and everything is amazing.
Time passes and one day you went home and your flat mate normally asks "How was your day?" And you reply " it's good" and with a smile you go to your room. When you sit on your bed and you actually recall about the incidences and activities of the day, you remember none.
Total BLACKOUT...
Then you met Margarita, a bold, blonde and not so easy going girl.
She knows everything about your past, the deadly things which even you don't remember. She knows each and every bit of it. On the other hand, you know nothing about her, except she booze, have drugs and love to party. Destiny actually plays wicked.
How would you feel??
This is Malvika's Story.
'Scarlet Nights' , a book which actually made me shiver and do many, many mental calculations, but unfortunately (or fortunately) I failed to crack the suspense of the book. The Narration is amazing, characters are very well defined and it is one of the best psycho thriller I've read so far.
Well Done Mayur sir, you nailed it. Hats off to your imagination.
And Thanks for the hand written Note man, it made me feel special.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story revolves around the protagonist named Malvika .

Malvika Chauhan ,26 yrs old, Tall, fair and slim, she had strikingly beautiful features.used to stay 2BHK apartment, being a Mumbaikar was like being a part of a crowd that ran, ran and kept running.
A beautician by profession, she ran a parlour of her own and made excellent earnings out of it.

Malvika loves Shikhar . Shikhar Malhotra was a thirty-year-old entrepreneur. He had inherited his family‟s real estate business and was a millionaire. 6‟1”, he was fair and heavily built. His features weren‟t impeccable, but he had a magnetic personality.
There was a kind of roughness about his looks that Malvika liked the most. Soft-spoken, well-bred and gallant,Shikhar was a gentleman.

Margrita, an unknown stranger, who knows her dark secrets, she was frustrated with her life in the confinement. She had tried several tricks to escape—stealing the keys, bribing the staff
Malvika was losing hope .She can cause harm to Malvika, due to which Malvika was kept in the hospital for weeks.

This story totally creeped me out. The writing is mature and bold. The beauty of the book lies in its narration .The book was splendid in its plot development, character development and story line. I will rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I received the book as a part of goodreads giveaway.
This book can be simply and perfectly described as a PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER. Suspense does die away half way through the book, but my view is suspense was never the strength of this book. It was the narration and imagination that made it cool till the end.And not to forget mayur was also good at dealing the narration boldly and exploring human minds deepest and darkest fears, deeds and struggle to cope.
I liked this book inspite of seeing similar storylines in a movie[ANNIYAN-tamil,telugu starring vikram] and the novel by sidney sheldonTell Me Your Dreams the main theme revolves around the same point but in this book mayur did great job by concentrating on innerself of Malavikas character and her struggle with vivid imagination and leaving the perspective of outerworld a lot less weight when compared to the games that are going on with her struggling soul or consciousness.
What could i say more, I loved the book and my best wishes for the author. And I dont doubt that Mayur will be back with something soon and I wish he keeps coming back with more and more.

“Scarlet Nights”, the enthralling psycho thriller from Mayur Patel, showcases the complexities of human mind. The story revolves around a girl named Malvika who is leading a cheerful life with successful professional and personal fronts. But can things be perfect? Or is it all an illusion; well you guessed right! She carries the burden of her dark past; struggling and fighting for making their ends meet … and adding to it there is Margrita, an unknown stranger, who knows her dark secrets in and out; a threat to her so-called perfect life! What mysteries these characters unfold and twists created in the track is for the readers to follow with the journey with Scarlet Nights. In the depths of darkness you never know what can happen, right?!
The author effortlessly takes you to travel with Malvika and Margrita, their emotions and shades keeping the suspense intact. With each turning page the thirst to go on… sure… will increase. Each character is sketched very well. The writing style is very impressive that adds to the beauty of the book.
But the story could have been much better if there was something more; something new to it; may be a little more promising plot line as I felt this one a little hollow! All in all, this is a must read for those who love to get thrilled or those who love to feed their minds with creative imaginations.:D
We will rate this as 4/5 .

The story is All about Malvika, Margrita, Shikar , Jass, Lila and many more characters but primarily on first three. Malvika is a successful entrepreneur who has a rich sexy bf Shikar but off late there has been disturbance in her life with Margrita making an entry. What is the past that haunts Malvika and will it affect their relationship.

The best part of the book is the authors portray’s each and every character with a finnese. I particularly loved the Shikar and Jass as characters. And Tutu as well:). It’s a different read from normal story this one comes with a twist.

The negatives about the book is its predictive ending and i was looking for more drama, and I felt it was lacking but overall i loved it.

A different read.

In his captivating second novel, Scarlet Nights, Mayur Patel explores memory, privacy, and fear, and what happens when the jarring incidents of our past catches up with us. It is a gripping tale with irresistibly engaging characters who sharply illuminate psychological issues in modern times. It is a well researched, pacy novel that is worth a read.
