In the jungle there are jaguars, monkeys and parrots aplenty, but there are no penguins. None at all. Because penguins do not live in the jungle, except for ... GWENDOLYN!
A story about friendship, adventure and finding your home.
Juliette MacIver lives north of Wellington City with her husband and four children. She majored in linguistics at university, took a detour and became a bicycle courier for a year, then went back to university to complete a diploma in teaching English. She taught for five years before quitting and starting a government job, which she left once her first child was born. Juliette has always written little pieces, frequently in rhyme, and has had “write a children’s story” on her List Of Things I Want To Do In My Life for a very long time. Little Witch is her first title with Walker Books.
Initially didn't think much of this book. I read it to a New Entrance (5 year old) class because I like the bright vibrant pictures, at the time I thought the children were attentive whilst not captivated. Then, when reading to the same class about three months later I was announcing my next story when one of the children yelled out "Gwendolyn!!". I still think the book is too long for the age group it's trying to appeal to (as a group read) but something (maybe even just the word 'Gwendolyn') stuck with that little one and that's something all the reviews in the world won't be able to quantify.
