Author Seven Steps sent me an e-copy of The Slave Planet for review. Unfortunately, the file did not transfer to my e-reader properly, and I had to request another copy. Sure glad I did.

The Slave Planet is the story of a dystopian society (at least for the men/ slaves). That is my classification, the book is not necessarily marketed as such. What else would you call it when one group (in this case women) enslave another (men).

Social problems aside, The Slave Planet is a love story (more accurately, several love stories) where the characters respond to natural physiological/biological urges (don't worry the book is nowhere near that clinical). The crux of the story is that men and women are naturally attracted to each other (yay!).

The story is full of action, political intrigue, murder, and of course, romance. The characters are believable and sympathetic (except for Arees; believable yes, sympathetic, no), and I found myself rooting for Nadira from the start.

As I said; The Slave Planet is a romance, but we know romance is not my usual read. This book has so many things going for it that I did not feel I was reading out of my preferred genre. The evil politicians were as ruthless and cold-hearted as they come. Our female author does not go easy on her portrayal of female characters at all (does that sound sexist?). The book title Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus is apparently true; the slave planet in question is Venus, and there is a hint of what Mars is about (shudder).

The Slave Planet crosses genres so easily that I find it hard to categorize. I guess that is what publicists and merchandisers are for. For me it just means that Seven Steps is a very good story teller. Bottom line, isn't that what we're looking for?

I was so caught up in the story that I didn't pay attention to the battery level in my e-reader. In the midst of the climax I had to recharge the device. What a drag!

The Slave Planet by Seven Steps is the first in a trilogy definitely worth following. Enjoy!

Wasn't too sure what to think of the book to start off with. It was almost a DNF. But it intrigued me enough to finish.
I understand the concept of the story line. Just seemed a little off. The story didn't flow for me.

The Slave Planet gives a whole new meaning to the phrase Women are from Venus. The book takes place on the Planet Venus in the year 7009. The planet is run by a matriarchal society where women not only run the planet, but men are slaves. Relationships between men and women are forbidden. So what is Nadira to do when she finds herself in love with her slave Kiln. As a council woman she tries to pass a law that will free the slaves. But new and old grudges alike not only prevent the bill from passing, but also put Nadira and others lives in danger.

This book started off a little slow for me, but when the action started, I had a hard time putting it down. There are so many points I could hit on that made this book so great to me but I don’t want to spoil it completely for everyone. I will say this, it’s amazing what a few angry women can accomplish when they put their minds to it. They cannot only build a society on that anger, but they can also tear it apart, with the help of a little ignorance and a healthy dose of entitlement.

The characters were amazing! You had Nadira who knew what she wanted and that was Kiln. She was willing to do anything to keep her relationship with him, and wanted nothing more then to not have to hide anymore and live in fear of being found out. She was tough and stuck to her values even when that meant harsh consequences. Kiln wanted nothing but to be with her. He wanted her safety above everything, including his life. Bragnia was an angry woman with a chip on her shoulder. She blames her status in life on others and doesn’t take responsibility for her own decisions that got her there. She uses her position to her revenge at any cost. Eva is a good girl who believes everything she has been taught about men and women and their status in society. Until she meets Lex her new slave. It was fun to watch her learn and grow throughout the book. There are many other characters who make this book hard to put down just waiting to see what happens to them.

As the book continues, you start to see that all is not what it seems in the beginning, but you will need to read the book to learn more. I highly suggest you read this book. I hope to see the story continued, I would love to see what becomes Nadira and the rest.

Although I found the book to start a little rough - the dialogue felt long while the sequence of time went too quickly, once it found a better pacing I really got hooked.

The culture of the book was really interesting - having a matriarchal society where men were used as slaves was a mind-broadening experience; it almost toyed with your assumptions and gave a twist as to where you expected the storyline to go and added a good sense of unpredictability. Obviously, no one would want a society where slavery is an accepted practice, but this dystopian society was well thought out in its creation - the political tension, the underground markets, and the different cities/communities that made up the planet.

I struggled some with the relationship of Nadira and Marie in the beginning because it seemed inconsistent. First Marie being upset that Nadira was too friendly with Kiln, then sending her to live on her own with Kiln and no supervision. However, the way Marie and Nadira worked together in the end helped clarify their stance with each other.

I'm not much for rating with half stars, but this one I teetered between three and four stars as I compared it in my mind to other books I've enjoyed, and I'd have to give it 3.5 stars. I really got hooked in the adventure, but at times the flow of the story was choppy from errors (you vs. you're, then for than, and bought instead of brought) that were prevalent throughout the book. But, with the string of characters that survived and the adventure where the book ended, I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Intense, Intriguing, Innovative.

Those are the words that, for me, describe this book.

The Slave Planet is a story set in the very far future, it takes place on Venus, one of many planets that have been colonised. It is a planet where women rule and men are their slaves. The High Council that rule the planet are run by mostly power hungry women with extremely questionable morals. Reading this book, I actually found myself at times ashamed to be a woman.

The two main female characters Nadira and Eva both hold love for their slaves, which is illegal on Venus. We see them struggle and fight for their love against such fierce opposition. On top of that is the crazy Arees, who is desperate to become the leader of the High Council and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals.

I loved the storyline, it is original and I have never read anything like it before. However, though I loved the idea I felt that the author, whether knowingly or unknowingly lacked in certain knowledge of the planet itself. I myself have been enthusiastic in learning about the universe and have often studied the planets in our solar system, so for me there were a few holes in the story. For example the days and nights seem to be written within the same time frames as earths when in fact a day on Venus lasts 116 days.

Even in knowing that I still really enjoyed the book and the plot lines, the characters were fantastic and I felt as though I was there with them, which is always the sign of a great writer.

With the book ending with a cliffhanger, I’m hoping there will be a second book and am extremely excited to read it!

Da Book Reviewers Presents...

This book was very well written. It had few grammatical errors, if any. The title had me thinking that it was about to be a book version of the movie roots. However, I was in for a rude awakening.
The story took place on the planet Venus. The characters were young kids and their mothers. There were no fathers in the story but toward the ending it became clear of how the children were made. The kids and their mothers all had slaves. Some of the kids and their parent had more than one slave.
The kick of the story is that the planet is ran by women. All the slaves are male. They have to do exactly what the women say or they will be punished or executed. The higher council was only women. So you know with a bunch of women together, this book is full of drama and jealousy. Some of the women were falling in love with their slaves. But guess what, that was against the law. So now we know the book also includes sex, lying, and sneaking. We now have all the recipes for a delicious book.
The slave planet keeps the readers intrigued. I read the whole book in one setting. The ending was somewhat sad. I'm glad Empress Arees got handled. I only wish they would have zapped Countess Jun-Su also. Maybe they will get her in part two. Great book, keep up the good work.

I received this book for an honest review.
This book has a very interesting view on a future planet where women are in charge and men are slaves. They buy and sell men all over the universe. The women are called Empress. The story revolves around an young girl, Nadira and her slave Kiln. She wants him to be free because she is in love with him, her mom wants rid of him and for her daughter to be on the council. In the beginning, her friend gets killed while racing hovercrafts and she keeps being seen with her slave which causes her to get in trouble. Her mom eventually kicks her out even though she made it on the council. Several of the Empress are killed and they set out to find out who. Very interesting story if you like futuristic books.

What would it be like if women ruled and men were slaves, well The Slave Planet gives you a pretty idea of what it would be like.

It was a little slow to begin with, but once the characters developed more they were great and thought it was great to reveal in bits through out the book why the plant is ruled by women and what a few other planets are like. There was a great range of types of characters good, bad, down right evil and oblivious of whats going on and you could really picture what your surroundings looked like as well as see the characters.

The ending had me wanting to read more so do hope book 2 in in the works to come out soon!

I was gifted this book for an honest review. I have learned I am not a reader of Sci-fi. This book was well written, flowed well, and very few edit errors. For those I am giving it a 4 star. I was not able to connect to the characters in this story, I was not sure what to expect. I did read the entire book and it took all I had, I can say I am not disappointed in the way it all came to an end. If your into futuristic fantasy stories, this one is for you, you would probably enjoy it more than I was able to.

Kiln and Nadira have an epic story

There is so much more in this book than I dared hope for, with intriguing and 3 dimensional characters, fantastic world building, and explorations of a culture I'm grateful not to live in, I wanted to stay up all night reading more and finding out what comes next.

There are hints at more to come, Lex is an interesting character in his own right, along with several other supporting characters, leaving me ready to look and see if there is another book in this Universe available.

For me this is not my usual read. That being said once I got past the introduction I enjoyed it. there is a lot going on when the story begins. There is a lot of different characters that play major roles in the book that you have to see where they come in play before the story can really get going. Once that happens it goes quicker. There is a second book coming in the series. I am wondering in what direction it will go!

I'm just going to give this book a fail. My version of the book had a black woman on the cover and was suggested to me by Amazon because of my interest in interracial stories. The book featured here has a different cover and that kind of reflects my experience (though I did not finish the book.) Also this felt like a YA book, and maybe it is, i didn't check. I was expecting a very different book. DNF 40%.

I loved this book! I really could not put it down. The world is constructed and the characters are developed at a steady pace throughout which made it an intriguing read from page one all the way through to the very end. My heart broke a little when I realized I had finished the book and there was no more to read! I'm hooked, can't wait to read the next one!

Very interesting to say the least. This book has a lot going for it. Has a catchy story which I only got lost in once or twice. But things figured themselves out. The characters were different. And there backgrounds were interesting. That ending made me think what is to happen next. Can't wait for book two

When I first started reading this I didn't think I would like it, but it became interesting. I found it kind of hard to follow at times and felt the were a few inconsistencies, but at the same time I'm really curious as to what will happen in the next book. I would recommend this book to others.

This story was not one I've read before, right away you get the idea that all women being of high power, men having no power at all. (The thought appalled me)
The men have become slaves, due to one mans selfish/sick needs. Which Ruins the lives of all men, and generations to follow.
The slave planet is set in the future, as well revolves outside of Earth. Venus gets its chance to shine in a story.
I enjoyed the main characters Nadira & Kiln their story of loving one another is not an easy task. Women teach their daughters that men are just to be their slave an nothing more. Nadira's straight forward feelings toward Kiln, are obvious to those around her.
Thus causing an uphill battle of old laws and wanting new laws- the freedom of rights and just plain ole freedom from slavery becomings the fight of good vs evil. Will their love with stand this battle?

At first it was getting to know who was who, which characters do you trust and what will happen next....

As the story progressed more characters came out stronger, keeping me on my toes. As the build up of Nadira & Kiln, Eva & Lex, even the power struggle for a new leader, the fight carries you swiftly from one point to the next.
I'm sadden by some characters as I was beginning to enjoy them... But I know that this story needed to carry forth it's journey for fighting for what is right.

I enjoyed the names of each character, loved the variety of slave options, even though the idea of slavery is not my cup of tea. The descriptive portions about the leaders before them, I really enjoyed. I felt like I was there learning each one of the historical leaders, this causing the chain reaction to how women came in power.

I'm not meaning to spoil this story for anyone, I hope that everyone who comes across this book enjoys it as much as I did. Thank you for this opportunity I look forward to book 2.

Venus a planet dominated by women, men of all species are slaves, to be treated as mere animals, as women hold the power. Men have their minds wiped and put into slavery, fraternising is strictly forbidden, to have feelings for, to love punishable by death for the male, and death or exile in space for the women.

Here is where we find Empress Nadira and her servant Kiln, she is young and rash but deeply in love with Kiln, which if found out will result in death. An accident resulting the death of a friend, sets forward a chain of events that will cost her everything.

We also meet Nadiras friend Eva and her newly bought slave Lex. We also learn about Mahala, the sanctuary for runaway slaves and the women turned Rogue who follow them into exile. And Bragnia once a friend, but due to her part in the accident, is inducted into the Enforcers, the cold hard, no mercy policewomen of the planet, to whom life can be taken away with a single blaster shot, be it slave or Mistress.

The book is compelling and twists and turns, explaining the politics of the planet, how power corrupts and the violence against the men is absolute. Nadiras fight to have the law changed becomes twisted, and her life, Kilns, her mother and anyone else she is close to becomes threatened if she does not vote for the one woman who is systematically, removing, murdering everyone who opposes her.

I was given this book for and honest review, and I was extremely happy when reading it a good book, full of intrigue, a unique perspective on a female run society, and how it could be just as bloodthirsty and dangerous as a male dominated society

*This book was provided by Seven Steps for an honest review*

The Slave Planet is a sort of alternate history science fiction where humanity is led by women on the planet Venus in the year 7009. Men are slaves in this society, mistreated and forever unloved by their owners- the women. Procreation is allowed but love is not. Nadira, the main character loves her slave Kiln and wants to free the slaves so they can be in love out in the open. This obviously creates tons of drama and Nadira tries desperately to change their society for the better. The Slave Planet was very imaginative, I truly felt for Nadira and Kiln. While the story was good, the flow of the story came off a bit choppy at times, it didn't take away from the story but it did make it a four star instead of a five story. I definitely recommend the Slave Planet for fans of science fiction!

When I originally began reading this book, I was quite skeptical. The whole 'man-slave' thing made me slightly uncomfortable, to be honest. Slavery is a very touchy subject, so I think that Seven Steps is very brave for using it as the main theme of this book. I actually almost quit reading, I wanted to, but for some reason I just kept turning the page. I don't know what kind of voodoo magic is in the pages of this book, but it's the real deal. I didn't close the book until I had to sleep/charge my device. I snuck away during the day to read. That really says a lot about the quality of this book. (Why isn't snuck a word? What world do we live in?! I'm leaving it because that's how I talk...I will NOT say 'sneaked'.)....

The Slave Planet was a different but intriguing read set in the future. A planet ruled by women with men as slaves. Corruption, greed, exploitation, forbidden love….you name it, it was in the book. I loved the fact that even though love was involved it was a “clean” read. I loved Empress Nadira and all that she stood for. I hate that it took her mother so long to come around. Empress Eva soon came to realize exactly what Nadira was going through with her slave. Kiln and Lex both were good slaves and would do anything in their power to protect their Empress’s. By the end of the book you come to realize that everything is not as it seemed in the beginning.

I gave this book 3.5 stars because it is something that had to grow on me. I can’t wait to read the sequel. #VLSBOOKREVIEWS

I really loved this book! It took me a couple tries to start the book but as soon as I got past the 2nd chapter and really grasped what was going on I couldn't put it down! It has romance and adventure, deceit and so much more! You are involved in so many different people's lives and by the end I started to hate some and love some. There were surprises around every corner and just when you thought you knew what was coming next the author went the other direction! Great work Steven Steps, I can't wait to see where you take us on this next adventure!!

This book is really an epic adventure and a peek into the future. In fact, the future begins in the year 7009 and on another planet. Readers join Empress Nadira Marie as she deals with life, love and loss along with the threats to her way of life and to the very planet. The author has done a great job with such a long novel keeping things clear and creating characters readers will love and a few they may hate. I have read several stories by this author and always find a compelling story in a good read.

Is anyone else upset that the villain got a redemption story? Because after all that went on to save Venus from Arees, I was ready for her to kick rocks. And what was the whole point of Eva and Lex, it was a bit of a waste since now she's the new villain and her ex-lover is now somehow in love with the ex-villain. The one constant in this story is Kiln and Nadira. They're love and devotion was refreshing in such bleak circumstances. Things are quite a mess now for their home planet.

Fast paced

I found the story be plausible and it drew me into the story quickly. Only noticed one word that was incorrect near the end of the story when they shot the gun out of her hand. Lots of action. Finished in one sitting about three hours. Looking forward to the next one.
