About the author

Georg Johannes Kugler (born 1935) worked in the Kunsthistorisches Museum Library from 1959 and in the Wagenburg at Schönbrunn, where he was director from 1973 to 2000. In 1990 he became assistant general director of the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Currently, Kuger is scientific director of the Lipizzan Museum, and through numerous publications has become a leading authority on Viennese and Austrian cultural history. Included in his oeuvre is the major work Die Lipizzaner der Spanischen Hofreitschule (with W. Bihl), published in 2002. He has since published the guides The Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna (2006) and The Lipizzans (2007).
