Robert Priest’s poems for children are funny, clever and hip! Kids adore them, repeat them and even improvize upon them. Now Ekstasis Editions presents the best of Robert Priest’s two previous collections of children’s poetry, A Terrible Case of the Stars and The Ruby Hat, along with outstanding new poems. Families, libraries and classrooms will appreciate having the best of Robert Priest’s children’s poetry in a single volume with delightful pen and ink illustrations by artist Tineke Visser (Colours Everywhere You Go, Ekstasis 2000). With space poems, robot poems, nonsense and fantasies Robert Priest makes literacy and learning fun for all ages! The Secret Invasion of Bananas is undoubtedly destined to become a classic of contemporary Canadian poetry for children.
The Secret Invasion Of Bananas is a book filled with poems for kids of most age groups. Since there isn't much to say about this book, I thought that instead i could chose my favorite poem from this book and explain why I liked it.
Here is the poem: No Matter Which Way You Turn, There's Always Something You're Not Facing.
Reasoning: I really liked this poem because unlike the other poems in the book, you can actually apply it to everyday life. For example, almost everyday i help friends out with their issues, and many of them think that if they leave it alone for a bit, and come back later it would go away. But the think that they might not understand is that, even when you turn your back on that previous problem, it doesn't mean that a BIGGER problem wouldn't come up.
I took this book out because i thought that since this book is for kids, it would be a fun bonding time with my two year old niece. Of course, I didn't remember that two year olds are filled with energy and never want to sit down! But eventually ( 4 hours later !), she began to get tired and i took that as an opportunity to read her poems ! Yes, she might have had no idea what I was talking about... But she liked the pictures!
I finished this book because after reading a few to my niece, I found them sort of interesting! So i kept going and read at least one poem a day, and finally finished the book!
I would recommend this book to adults everywhere who have little kids that have waaaaay too much energy for their own good! (A.K.A. My niece!) Why? Because it helps calm them down so that you can have some quiet time. (And after being in the same home as her for a week, Even i needed my quiet time!)
This is a random collection of silly poems for kids that I picked up at a folk festival in Owen Sound. They were quite silly and creative - a good selection to keep around for the kids eventually.
