Boswell is a kitchen cat who loves to cook. He cooks sizzling sausages, luscious lasagne and perfect pies and they are all SCRUMPTIOUS!

And when he cooks he doesn't like mess but on the other hand he doesn't like cleaning. He thinks that sweeping the floor, scrubbing the cooker and washing the dishes is not only very hard work but also boring work.

On the other hand Lizzie the kitchen mouse and her family love messy kitchens, they enjoy syrupy slops, toasty titbits and cheesy crumbs but Boswell never leaves any bits lying around for them to feast on. They are, as a result, very hungry.

But then one day Boswell is working so hard in the kitchen as he is giving a party that he fails to notice the time so that when the 'Ding Dong' of the doorbell announces the arrival of his guests, he has no time to clean up.

The party begins as fabulous flans, delicious doughnuts, lip-smacking lollipops. all washed down with lashings of orangeade, are eaten and drunk.

Meanwhile back in the kitchen the mice can not believe their luck for all the mess is lying around the kitchen. 'This will feed us for a week,' squeaked Lizzie and they gather it all together, sneak it past the partying cats and just as they are about to get it into their den there is a cry of 'Mice!' Lizzie responds with her own cry of 'Cat!', adding, 'Please don't eat us!'

Boswell says that he is so full that he cannot eat another thing, then adds, 'Well, perhaps just one tiny little mouse.' But luckily the surrounding sparklingly clean kitchen takes his attention; there isn't a scrap of mess anywhere and he realises what has happened and he has an idea.

From that day Boswell did not bother about making a dreadful mess when cooking for he comes to an arrangement with Lizzie and her family that they will clean up every evening after he has cooked; he need not bother about any mess thereafter. And every Friday to celebrate their partnership, Boswell cooks a great big cheddar cheese pie that they all tuck into ... Deeeelicious!
