Superman is dying. As he begins to accept the inevitability of his death, he begins to make arrangements for what will come after him. The events of several big storylines from the Superman and Justice League titles have left his body unable to heal and cope with the injuries and exposure to toxins.

I was actually kind of touched by this issue. Superman handles this situation much better than I ever would! He doesn’t really grieve or get angry, ignore it or become depressed - he just starts to put things in order. He spends time with Lana Lang and Lois Lane, making plans for a future he won’t be in. Most notably, it manages to do it all with a smile.

There are a couple of subplots just beginning to develop that are very intriguing and may lead to some Rebirth storylines. Not sure what to make of them yet, but I’m curious how these will develop.

Gotta give props to Michael Janin’s artwork! Very crisp and beautiful. Facial expressions are probably the most important part of this issue and he nails every one of them. From Superman’s smile to Lana’s anguish and Lois’s curiosity on the last page. Just fantastic work!

This was a great kickoff to this storyline. Can’t wait to see how it develops along with way and hope it ends as nicely as it began.

My first digital comic on my Fire tablet

I wanted to catch up on the whole "Final Days of Superman" and was too lazy to chase down the 8 issues involved. So I downloaded this comic and I liked it a lot. Still going to collect most of my comics the old paper way, but I like the ease of these digital comics. Hard to get too excited about Superman dying. Been there and done that, bagged #75 and all. Plus there is a replacement Superman in the story. A good solid story and I like the writer's approach.

A neat premise and necessary set-up for DC's Rebirth. This was a good start to the story, with emotions just right. I do feel that this premise will stand in the shadow of what Grant Morrison did in All Star Superman regarding Clark's awareness that he is dying. Those are big shoes to fill and right now I predict that this arc won't quite surpass how much I enjoyed All Star Superman. But I hope it makes a noble effort.
