Complete with photographs and drawings from Russia's Rocket & Space Corporation Energia, this Pocket Space Guide, #8 in the series, is a condensed history of the Russian Space Program from 1946 to the present day. Fifteen years after the founding of the program, in April 1961, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to fly in space, and the race was on. Fabulous spacecraft photos and facts illustrate and authenticate this authoritative history.
Good, in-depth history of the Soviet/Russian space program from its inception to the present day. Details an unbelievable story of political machinations and many failures and the characters involved in designing and building the hardware, particularly the incredible Sergei Korolev. A must-read for anyone interested in Russia's space program. Great photos too.
This is part of a series of books, some better than others. This one is great simply because there isn't much stuff about Russian and Soviet spacecraft out there.
