My Quick Thoughts: I've grown to love this devotional book! It's a *wonderful* tool to use with character studies.

My Full Thoughts:

This has proven to be a wonderful addition to our days! With Grasshopper(5) going to preschool right now, we're *learning* to use the time we have with him in the best way possible. It is a work in progress adjusting, though! This is a great devotional book to use with him just before school each day.

You may(or may not) remember that I'm not overly fond of the NIV of the Bible. This book *does* use the NIV throughout. That's the great thing about devotional books, though. There are so many options! Each devotional has 1 to 2 Bible verses included. I can easily read from the translation of my choice, since the verses are provided for me. It's never a bad thing for our children to see us reading from the actual Bible, after all. It *is* so handy that each verse is written out within the devotional, though. And, admittedly, I've taken advantage of its convenience more often than not. ;)

There are 365 devotions included in this book. Back to the options I mentioned earlier. If there's ever a devotional I(or you) don't like....we can skip it. We haven't made our way completely through all of the devotions just yet, but so far, I've been *very* pleased. You can use these devotions in many ways. They are dated, so you can use one for each day of the year. There's also a couple of indexes, so you can also study them by subject/verses.

The "Contents" section lists each and every devotional title by month and day. The devotional itself starts with a Bible verse. Then there's a story to help your child put the lesson into modern day/everyday context. After that, there's a "lesson". The ending varies by day. It might be another Bible verse, or a trivia fact from Bible times, a definition, or a challenge, etc. At the end of the book, there's a topic index(alphabetical order) and a Scripture index(Biblical order).

As I read through many of them, and looked through the indexes, I realized what a wonderful tool this book is in connection with character/virtue studies. We recently created a "morning board" and included a "character study" portion. This book is a *perfect* addition. There's also many other wonderful lessons included, though.

Overall, this is a great devotional for little ones. The recommended age is for 9-12 year olds, but in general, I think younger ones can greatly benefit from them, too. It a great, *quick* way of getting a little Bible lesson into the day when time is short. Of course, I think we could ALL use more time in our days! ;)

*A huge "Thank you" to Charleen at DJC Communications and Zondervan for sending me a review copy in exchange for my *honest* opinion! We've enjoyed our time in it!

About the Book:

In a format that reflects the tone and structure of the newly revised "NIV Adventure Bible," this devotional uses intriguing fictional adventure stories and other fascinating features to teach children about God, themselves, and what it means to live a life of faith.

My Review:

The Adventure Bible is a great Bible used to engage children in the Bible stories that we all know and love. It has a way of drawing them in and holding their attention, possibly because of the slang type language it uses as well as the fact that it is written in a comic book style format. Well the writer of the Adventure Bible has created many other go along type books to help enhance that learning that the Adventure Bible provides. So it is no surprise to me that the author of the Adventure Bible has created a devotional to go along with it.

Written in simple, straight forward devotional style formatting. Your child can read a devotion a day, because there are 365 included---enough for an entire year. Each days devotion contains a brief summary on the point of the lesson, words of encouragement, a simple Bible based fact and the verse to go along with it. Simple and right to the point is something that my children love about the book. And as a mom I love that they are getting their Bible reading in.

Have those of you who read through the Bible on a daily basis and include devotional readings as part of your spiritual practice ever longed for resources to help develop that same daily disciplines in you children?

If so, you’ll be thrilled to discover the Adventure Bible Book Of Devotions by Robin Schmitt – a book written specifically with 9 to 12 year olds in mind!

The Adventure Bible Book Of Devotions is written in a style that will help your child to apply the themes of the Bible to their lives. While the format looks similar to a typical devotional book – there is a Bible verse at the top of the page and a “takeaway” at the bottom – the devotional itself is divided into two parts.

The first half of the devotional contains an engaging story about a real child facing real adventures in the real world. The second half provides the reader with a direct object lesson relating to the day’s Bible verse. It’s an engaging format that should hold your child’s interest, and leave him or her longing for more!

I rate this book 4 1/2 stars.

This devotional is perfect for kids!!! I love love love that there are devotionals for the entire year, so this really is a gift that will keep on giving. Each devotional has a unique title and starts with a Bible verse. Next, there is a short story about kids that I think all readers will be able to relate to. Basically these short stories allow your children to see a situation from an outside perspective and think about the Bible verses in a completely new applicable way! Then, the next section ties the story together with the Bible verse or theme for that devotional and often ends with a challenge or take away.
There are super fun facts throughout the devotional at the end of each day, these include…
Did You Know?
Words to Treasure
Life in Bible Times
People in Bible Times and MORE!!!

Again let me say, this is a FUN DEVO that kids will LUV! Liven up your kids quiet time & get them excited about God & His Word!

A STUDY WORTHY OF APPROVAL

If you are looking for a good Bible devotion book for your kids, I highly recommend this one for you. The most impressive thing to me in this book is it structure. I like the way the author formatted it for daily use. For example, each page is dedicated to a day of the year, then it gives the daily verse. After that is a short parable using kids and situations that they might encounters. After that is a brief explanation of how the verse applies to the story. Then, at the bottom of the page are fun "factoids", that bring a nice close to the page. There is a "Did you know?", "Things to ponder," and "Words to treasure".

This is a fun devotional to read and I think you'll enjoy it too. If you prefer to use other Bible versions other than the NIV, just keep one with you and quote from that. The book is well worth the $12.99 cover price and I think you'll have many good devotions as you and your children read through it.

This year long devotional is written specifically for early readers. It is filled with fictional stories about kids finding adventure in the real world, all the while learning about God and faith.

As I read through this Devotional I was impressed with the simplicity of each story and the message it portrayed. Each devotional has a Bible verse and is one page in length so it will insure that your child will stay focused.

I discussed this devotional with my son, who said it would help parents like him have easy to understand devotionals with their children. I feel this would be a great way to start a family devotional time.
