Rate this book
Leverage the power of Selenium to build your own real-time test cases from scratch If you are a software developer with a basic knowledge of testing and are interested in automated testing using Selenium, this is the book for you. No prior knowledge of Selenium is required. Web technologies are becoming increasingly complex and there is often a need to test your web applications against a vast number of browsers and platforms, so you need to build highly reliable and maintainable test automation cases. Selenium is one of the most easy to implement and efficient solutions for this. This book will guide you through designing and implementing the automation framework on Selenium to build advanced automated test cases. You will start with getting acquainted with the Selenium IDE, working with AJAX, and using different methods to locate elements in a web page. You will then move on to using PageObjects, making tests maintainable, using WebDriver with different browsers, and setting up Selenium Grid. You will also be introduced to advanced topics such as working with proxy servers, network intrusions, and more. By the end of the book, you will have the skills to efficiently test your web applications using Selenium. A well-detailed section has been dedicated to teaching you the object-oriented concepts with basics of core Java, which are the pre-requisites for Selenium automation.

fair enough! Since I want to improve the quality of development (mostly Java), I found this book easy to approach. Besides the fundametal stuffs about Selenium returned in thousands of search results just by Googling, Chapter 5 - Design pattern, Chapter 7 - Automation Framework Development and Building Utilities, Chapter 9 - Getting start with Selenium Grid are the ones that I'm interested in. In summary, I got to know what I need to know and was ready to look for more advanced books about Selenium.

To be fair, I stopped reading this book at Chapter 4. It's July 2016 and this is the most recent edition (02/15) yet I wasn't able to access data listed in the chapters that is necessary to move forward with the text. Also, within the first 3 chapters there were discrepancies between IDE actual & IDE expected behaviors listed in the book.

It's possible that if I were interested enough to learn Java, I could have found what I needed to move forward but I'm a JS/Python person and this text was becoming increasingly frustrating. It was an expensive book to invest in and quite a bit of the information is out of date. If you've never heard of Selenium before, the first 3 chapters have good information, however it's information that is available for free on the internet. This was probably a great text when it was originally released but it hasn't been updated well. If you prefer books, rent this from the library first and then decide if you think it's worth purchasing the text.
