Concise, empowering, and inspirational, this guidebook offers practical wisdom and 135 guidelines that demystify the community change process. Replete with the wisdom of more than two decades of experience in the field, this text demystifies the community change process by providing nuts-and-bolts rules for success. Mark Homan's outline for community change is invaluable in any setting, from grassroots organizations to governments or community agencies. Writing in a conversational, informal style, Homan leads students through the basic things they need to know about themselves, about others, and about the change process itself. In the process, they will identify skills, attitudes, and choices important to their success as a change agent in the community.
This was a required read for my Communities and Organizations class. It's really basically a 'hands-on' guide to community work and/or change.
The book is presented in very reader-friendly dimension with 135 guidelines that 'demystify' the community change process.
I found the book to be very well organized and practical. It again, caters to social workers, public health workers, clergy, union organizers, etc... a bit more versatile than the other specific community change books I have read.
A great point about this book is that it tells you the most effective way to 'get the job done' in the shortest amount of time. It is a fairly quick read, 200 pages, but flew by.
