SKY FULL OF RIBBONS AN ABRIDGED NOVEL ON 4 CASSETTES RUNNING APPROX. 6 HOURS A THOROUGHLY CAPTIVATING NOVEL ABOUT LIVING, LAUGHING, LOVING..AND COMING HOME. Hop in and take a ride with Polly and Delia McGrath. Polly is a delightfully starchy widow who is busily fighting off the advances of Anthon Clemmer, a poet, a philosopher, and her one-time carjacker, who has suddenly decided to purchase the neighbor's place. Polly's disgust with him is equaled only by his mischievous desire to woo her. Polly's daughter Delia has worries of her own. A young college professor caught up in the intrigue of a baffling robbery, she thinks she may also be the only witness to an apparent homicide. And with the cast on her leg, the only car she'll fit in is her neighbor's lurching Pontiac convertible. So take a seat and get comfortable. She'll do the driving.

This book was part of a series and I have not read the ones that came before, but enough was told that I could pretty well follow what happened previously. There were a lot of characters to keep track of. Overall, I thought it was well written and held my interest.

I liked her English literature writing style. Several stories going in on this one book. Though predictable, I liked it.

I did not read the other books in this series but enough is explained so I was not lost.

This was not one of my favorite books. There were too many people, with some being part of a story then they were gone. Something or someone else would come up.

Anthon Clemmer wants nothing more than to court Polly McGrath. Something about her draws him like a moth to a flame. Unfortunately for him, she's still grieving her husband, and has nothing but disdain for him. Undeterred, when he comes into a large sum of money, he determines to buy some property in Smithville, Utah--preferably next door to Polly.

Meanwhile, Delia McGrath, Polly's daughter, has finally had the spiritual awakening her parents had longed for. As she slowly begins her return to the faith of her fathers, she has things going on in her life back in Wisconsin--teaching her classes, her long-distance romance with Gordon, and dealing with her family--among other things.

Okay, I didn't realize this was the third book in a series. I guess that would explain the backstories that were mentioned several times, but never fully explained! It's one of those books where not a whole lot happens--it's mostly the characters just living their lives, but the characters were well-drawn and enjoyable to read about.

I liked Marilyn Arnold's BYU Women's Week talks and essays I've read much better than this work of fiction.
