When the Streetlights Came On

Rate this book
Remember when Facebook didn’t exist? No video games, no online games, no Instagram, no Periscope. Remember when social media was really just a nosey neighbor? Remember when everybody used to play outside with their friends? Playing Tag, Hide and go seek, jumping Double Dutch, or sitting on the stoop playing, “That’s My Car.” Remember Saturday morning cartoons? Or when a phone book doubled as a booster chair, and putting baseball cards in the spokes of your bicycle tires was the coolest thing ever? When the Streetlights Came On, by comedian Kevin Jordan is a fun look back on a time when you knew the difference between your school clothes and your play clothes, respect was a given and kids played outside…all day, until the street lights came on!

I haven't had so many belly laughs in a LONG, LONG, LONG time! This comedian's book is absolutely hysterical...... as long as you resist the urge to fall in to a total despair over how much better things were, back in the day! People older than 40 will really get this book, but over 50 and you are just shaking your head with a huge grin on your face, as you remember all the wonderful things from your childhood! The younger generation? Nope! Not gonna get it, so don't waste your money buying it! English teachers, publicists, and proof readers will have a difficult time reading this, as it seems not to have been proof read too well (lots of omitted words and grammatical errors), but even with my "Catholic School education" I was able to skip over the errors and STILL laugh my way to the end! My husband and I were lucky enough to be entertained LIVE by Kevin Jordan. The man is an absolute riot! This book will make a great add on to our "to read" list, or as a gift to ANYONE in the older generations!

I laughed from beginning to end. I had just seen the author at a comedy show on a cruise ship and at the end of one of his shows he mentioned he had written a book that was available on Amazon. As soon as I got home I downloaded it and (other than a few typos) this book is perfect for anyone who grew up in the 50s/60s!
It will bring you back to your childhood over and over again in funny vignettes of him growing up in New York. So many of our experiences were universal back then. Whenever he references something younger readers would question he tells them to "Google it", and those are the very things that made me laugh out loud!
I took my time reading it, maybe 2-3 chapters a night as I really did not want it to end. If you are unsure about reading it...do as the author would say and "Google it"!

What a fun read :D If you are over forty years old, I highly recommend this quick, light read. (I would give another half of a star if I could, because it was a funny book. Unfortunately, all of the exclamation points and misused apostrophes are annoying--which is why I did not rate it five stars.)
