What I enjoyed was the historical background that Garcez provided for each place that he highlighted. However; the "ghost stories" weren't always specific to the area, or even that scary; it would have been helpful if there had been a map showing where each location was (I'm a native Northern Californian and I still wasn't sure where every city was located); and the editing could have used a bit of work.
