Dominant Encounters

Dominant Encounters: Two

Rate this book
Dominant Encounters: two continues on from where Dominant Encounters: one left off.

In this second instalment, Clara’s education progresses, and the learning curve is steep when she is forced to confront newly awoken desires during a visit to an exclusive club, where she is introduced to the rich diversity of the lifestyle she wishes to embrace.

Guided and instructed by Daniel, she is discovering elements of her nature that had previously been repressed. Still very much the newbie, she struggles to come to terms with all that Daniel expects of her, while Daniel comes under pressure from others within the community, who question his motives and intentions. When his feelings for Clara resurrect the shadows of his past, he struggles to maintain his usual calm control, and becomes increasingly tormented by the knowledge that what he truly wants, and the promise of happiness that Clara holds out, can never be his.

The end of this book, sees Daniel and Clara still ‘happy for now’, as Clara reaches a new understanding, and Daniel finds the resolve to set aside his own desires, in order to honour his commitment to preparing Clara to offer her submission to a Dominant who will be worthy of her, when the period of their contract ends.

Explicit language, sexual content, and activities relating to BDSM, make this book unsuitable for persons under 18 years of age.

“But, it’s an important part of your education,” Daniel was continuing. “How will you know what you want, when you don’t know what there is?”
“I think I know enough… and I don’t think I want any of it.”
Does that mean that she wants to quit? Daniel felt the shock of Clara’s words like a physical blow to the stomach, the fear that he’d pushed her too hard, gone too fast, and ruined everything, welling up like bile, while his brain was now scrabbling furiously for something he could say or do to make her stay.
“I didn’t know there would be…” Clara started, but Daniel cut her off.
“You were on a site intended for people interested in the lifestyle, posing as a submissive, looking for a Dominant… and no, you didn’t know… I have always been aware of that… but… I thought you wanted to find out.”
“I do… but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to be… to do… everything you expect. I’m just going to let you down.”
Daniel felt his whole body sag with relief when he realised she wasn’t actually saying that she wanted to give up. He reached across the table and took her hand.
“You are getting ahead of yourself, Clara. This is all about discovering what you like, how far you want to go, what you want to be… and I know it can all seem frightening… but there is nothing to be afraid of, I promise… and you could not let me down because I have no expectations beyond exploring your limits. I am asking you to trust me to help you discover exactly who you are, and who and what will suit you.”
“But that can’t be you?”
“No.”
“Why not? Maybe we will be right for each other.”
“I very much hope that we will be, but I cannot promise more than my dominance to help you find your submission. When you have found that, I believe it will be time for you to move on, to find someone who can commit to you.”
“Don’t you ever want to commit to someone?”
“We are not discussing me.”
“But it must be lonely… to only have relationships for a limited time.”
“It sets boundaries… and defines expectations.”
“Surely it is only in the security of a long-term relationship that people can feel truly comfortable with each other.”
“I do not want us to be comfortable with each other. I want us to meet – in every sense. I want us to complement each other, but I do not want us to be comfortable. I will require you to trust me and give yourself to me with no expectation of anything in return. That is not comfortable. That is submission.”

J.R. James is a British author who writes modern romantic fiction with an erotic twist and contemporary themes, exploring the Dominant/submissive dynamic in male/female relationships with varying levels of involvement in a BDSM lifestyle.

Her writing career began in 2013 with the publication of her ‘Love by Design’ trilogy, inspired by the new and expanding genre of erotic fiction with romance firmly at its core, and the growing mainstream popularity of the type of love stories that she had long enjoyed.

Her fiction has been described as ‘character-led’, and she admits to falling in love with her heroes and heroines while they ‘live’ with her and she gets beneath their skin to examine their motivations, as they navigate the often difficult path of love in search of their ‘happy ever after’.

She currently has seventeen published titles with lots more ‘work in progress’ ideas stored up in her imagination (and on her computer), and a whole cast of characters vying for attention to be her next romantic leads.

When she is not writing about the hot alpha-males who make the women in her books go weak at the knees, she loves reading across a wide range of genres, though erotic romance is definitely her first choice, and she is never happier than when curled up with a good book, or at her keyboard creating one.

In this book we get to see Clara being put through more rigorous training by her Dom Daniel. When he decides to take her to a highly respect BDSM club near her, she's not sure what to think. Her mind goes to the extreme of dungeons, hedonistic sex, and other things she's never before imagined. When they do finally arrive, she discovers it's not at all what she thought. Daniel wants to watch her reactions since she seems unable to speak her mind.

I really loved how this book developed! Clara has an overactive imagination, of that there is no doubt. She is pleasantly surprised by the opulence of the club, but also very nervous about what she observes. Even more so is she shocked about what turns her on while she is at the club. I liked how she finally was able to talk to other submissives since she is so new into the lifestyle. When she's not sure what to think about Daniel, she finds many other subs have their own opinions about him, and some of which she doesn't like.

In turn we get a peek into why Daniel has six-month contracts with his subs. He is very fond of Clara, but as a scene plays out in the story, he realizes he may be becoming too fond of her, and definitely very protective of her. Although he knows she is his only for six months, he doesn't at all like the idea of another man becoming her Dom after their time is over. Does this mean a change in Daniel's thinking and hear is on the horizon?

It has the "happy for now ending" which means a few more frustrating months for me waiting for the next book to come out! Patience is not one of my virtues ;-)
