Superb book, the quality is unsurpassable. Her books are definitely the ‘Rolls Royce’ of coloring books; the drawings are magical, the quality of the paper is superb, the cover is gorgeous, no cheap material and construction here. I opted for the original Swedish version, as I knew the quality was well worth the investment.
Other versions will be released soon.
Watch out Johanna Basford, Hanna Karlzon might take your crown!!!
Highly recommended for all the coloring enthusiasts out there.
Amazingly enough, I’ve never done a flip through and review of Summer Nights (Sommarnatt) by Hanna Karlzon. That is largely due to the fact that I’m trying to color every single image from this book and don’t want to film it halfway through. So I got the English version, Summer Nights, just to show you guys what it looks like blank. And for my own archival version of how the book looked before coloring. Anyway, without further ado, lets jump into the nitty gritty of this book! Anyway, Hanna Karlzon is my favorite artist, lets get that out of the way. And Sommarnatt/Summer Nights one of my favorite books of all time. This book has great paper, the English version is as good as the Swedish one. The images are double-sided and my favorite feature is the fact that it’s hardcover, it allows you to color in your lap or wherever without a table. The images vary, you get a lot of flowers but also girls and birds and mushrooms, everything you can possibly think of. Hanna’s style is very unique and rock’n’roll, I’d say. I specially love her women, they’re gorgeous beyond belief. The paper lends itself well to a bit of water as well so Inktense is fine in this book, just don’t float the page. The paper is absolutely brilliant for colored pencil, it takes the pencils beautifully, no need to struggle with it. Overall, I adore this book and if you don’t own it, you should, it is amazing! I can not wait to see what Hanna has in store for us next, even though I’ll never ever have time to color every image I love from her
Once I bought my 1st book from Hannah , which was Midnight Masquerade, I WAS IN LOVE, ! . In the last couple of months I have managed to get Spirit Animals, Grains of Gold, city in the stars, Witches Cottage, and about to add this one too! Once I saw all the colored pages on Pinterest they gave and give me so much inspiration. I never thought I would be coloring faces. But their not as difficult as I thought! Practice makes Perfect!
Gorgeous drawings yearning for color adorn every single page in this fantastic compilation of adult coloring pages from Swedish artist Hanna Karlzon. I would highly recommend any of her coloring books as they are both works of art as they are and are wonderful ways to pass time as you work to color each intricate section yourself.
I of course have this book in the Swedish edition, which was published months ago. Today it was published in English and I am glad, because the Swedish artists, are adding a new quirk to the colouring book market. You do not see these whimsical pictures in any other colouring books. When I first looked in Hanna Karlzon's colouring book "Day Dreams", I did not like the illustrations at all. They were nothing like Johanna Basford's beautiful and detailed art work. But the pictures grew on me till I finally purchased that book and then this one. Yes, Johanna's art work is amazing and not weird at all. But sometimes you just feel like colouring weird! Bizarre, strange, quirky. Like two frogs with houses on their backs. Or houses with mushrooms surrounding them. Birds flying around with jewelry in their beaks. This edition has butterflies, magical doors, keys, watches, pretty girls, flowers, insects... I have snake phobia, so the double spread with them, will have to be glued shut. But I guess I will have to colour the mice, spiders, etc and get over those phobias. There are a lot of colouring books out there and it really has become like a jungle. You do not know what to order, since it often is like a pig in the sack. Will I like the illustrations, will the paper be thick or like copy paper, will the illustrations be clumpsy or crisp? This book is one of the few, which are hardcover. That is a great bonus! It has thick nice off white pages. I gave the book four stars since you can hint the picture on the next page through the paper and it would have been nice with an image only on the right hand side, for those who like felt tip pens. I never dare to myself, so I do not know if the book can take such pens without bleeding through. But all in all, great quality book and fun images. VERY SWEDISH!
Beautiful colouring book which finishes like your own table top art book. The hardcover makes it a lovely gift to give and the illustrations worth the price.
Patience is worth it! For over a year we have admired the Swedish editions of Hanna's books and now we are rewarded with the very best of outcomes. Publishers, Gibbs Smith, have taken great care to ensure that the English language versions of these books maintain the excellent production quality of the Swedish originals. We can look forward to the same publisher releasing her future books and postcards, along with Maria Trolle's books. 5 Reasons to Buy a Hanna Karlzon Book…. post and video flip throughs are here - http://goo.gl/U4v2aW
I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.
Receiving this book in the mail was such a lovely surprise. I was expecting only a copy of Hanna Karlzon's Daydreams coloring book. However, I was thrilled to receive this one as well. Like Daydreams, the illustrations in Summer Nights are detailed and intricate and focus on nature. The blurb on the back of the book says that the artist was inspired by summer nights in Sweden and they really do come to life on these pages.
I won this wonderful coloring books in a Goodreads giveaway. The pages are beautiful! I have enjoyed coloring in this book. I also like how it is a hard back book. The only downside to this wonderful coloring book is there are pictures on both sides of the pages. On some coloring books there is just a picture on the front but not the back of the page. If I use coloring pencils I end up with an indent of the picture on the back of the page. Or if I use coloring pens of markers, you can see it on the backside of the page. So I usually only color one side of a page. Other than that it is a wonderful coloring book with beautiful pictures.
