I have been following Cassie and her blog for about 5 years now. I cannot tell enough people how much she has changed my life. Doctors told me to follow a low cholesterol, low-fat diet for my high cholesterol when I started college. Ironically, I found out about my cholesterol and the suggested diet during a class named "Fundamentals of Wellness." We even had professional sports trainers come and present nutrition tips that professional athletes follow-- things such as eating jello before weight lifting sessions and recovering with high sugar content drinks. At that time, I was also running competitively for my college's track team. When I followed the doctor's advice and followed the low-fat, low-cholesterol diet, I became injured and could not run at a competitive level. One night, after a terrible modified workout and feeling weak, I was searching for "cholesterol diet tips" and I (miraculously) stumbled across Cassie's blog! She talked about eating eggs, meat, and best of all... BUTTER! From then on I ditched the doctors advice and followed the PFC diet! I was able to return to competition and had the best season of my life.
Now that I am done with college, I maintain my fitness with shorter workouts, plenty of PFC foods, and wholesome, real food vitamins. I manage my cholesterol so well that my practitioner is impressed-- all with real food and supplements (and not big pharma)!
It's time to un-brainwash yourself from the sad American diet.
As diet books go, this isn't new information. Diets that count calories don't really work. We've known this for a while. I read Diets Don't Work years ago, and it said that. The National Weight Loss Registry substantiates also substantiates that.
What does work is another matter. To me, this book is a great overview of current research about what we should eat and about how we process fat, carbs, and protein. It's a little focused on insulin's effect. It's short and well written, so I'd recommend reading it.
I'd love to say that I read this book and lost weight (and, yes, I have more than the last 10 "vanity" pounds to lose), but that didn't happen. The book has made me more aware of my carbohydrate intake and the resulting blood sugar fluctuations, though.

Still not sure what I think yet. This was a recommend for a plan to help with my prediabetes by my doctor's office. Some of the advice seems legit, some of it seems a tiny bit too much like some fad diets for me. I see how the principles work, and I don't mind giving a short, if modified to remove the fad diet-y bits, trial until my next test. I wish the author had inserted citations because I'm way too college educated to just take her word for it. Hopefully I'll remember to update this later.
Finally someone that explains healthy eating in a way that makes sense, addresses all the common misconceptions out there and doesn’t have you counting calories or killing yourself at the gym 👌🏻
For me this book was about unlearning everything I thought was correct about losing weight and keeping it off for the long term. "Why am I still Fat?", explains very simply how to eat balanced meals and snacks each day to give me more energy and keep unwanted pounds off. I really love that I feel like I can have a bedtime snack again and not feel guilty!
I've followed Dietitian Cassie since early 2014, and I've found her advice to be sensible and straightforward. In a sea of false claims, misinformation and hype, Cassie is a voice of reason. I trust her, and her advice has helped me tremendously.
