This short book offers a framework for thinking about student self-assessment, dividing the types of activities we might get students to engage in into three categories: (1) Pause & Think, (2) Look for Proof, and (3) Connect to Criteria. The framework is useful and under each heading the authors offer very specific activities that can be used with students. They then go on to describe how this base of self-assessment can be a springboard to goal-setting.
The framework and activities are excellent, but the examples are pretty low level. They are mostly for younger children and tend to be a little superficial. That said, all the activities offered are possible to adapt to any age group and any level of sophistication, so as long as you are good at adapting, you will find the book very useful.
Really 2.5. Great: the simplicity of the reproducibles. Not so great: Half of the reproducibles are in "Setting and Using Criteria" instead of here and some of the others need to be recreated.
