The Psalms speak to the depths of human experience, provoking words and images to express anger, sorrow, lament, thanksgiving, joy, and worshipful praise. They are as relevant today as they were to the ancient peoples who first composed them. Interpretation Bible Studies (IBS) offers solid biblical content in a creative study format. Forged in the tradition of the celebrated Interpretation commentary series, IBS makes the same depth of biblical insight available in a dynamic, flexible, and user-friendly resource. Designed for adults and older youth, IBS can be used in small groups, in church school classes, in large group presentations, or in personal study.
This entire series of Bible studies combines the latest of Biblical Scholarship with contemporary application to the lives of those living out the Biblical text in the context of faith communities. Psalms was an excellent resource especially in appreciating the history of the transmission of the various songs poems, hymns that make up Israels Psalter. There were many recommended readings in Creach's guide that lead the reader to deeper material and further studies in the Psalms.
Interpretation Bible Studies are companion volumes to Interpreation Bible Commentaries and excellent resource for those teaching within faith communities. Psalms the Bible Study guide is keyed to Psalms by James L. Mays an excellent volume on the entire book of the Psalms. The Bible Study guide book has ten units and covers a majority of the types of Psalms in the Bible giving the reader-student an excellent first exposure for future studies. Personally I enjoyed expanding on Creach's questions for reflection, it made the study relevant and personal to me. Those who are adverse to the findings of modern scholarship may find the book quite a challenge but for those who desire an integration of modern approaches with significant spiritiuality will be delighted.
