Following on from book 1 The Process Continuing the Jillian Scott saga, a new murder case has been handed to her. Julie Swanson, a young trashy type of woman has been found brutally murdered and her body crucified on a cross. During the case, Jillian’s ego is tested, as Olivia Grayson, her equal from another station, is brought in as her partner. Jillian holds resentment, but her role as Detective brings her to her senses, and while the mystery of the murderer’s identity is unravelled, her personal life takes a knock when a new kind of threat presents itself.
Growing up in England, I spent most of my youth in Kidderminster before moving down to sunny Devon. In 2006 I moved over seas to Canada where I now happily reside with my wife Janice. I have many books published, all written under the lesbian genre. I love to write in different time era's, ranging from early 1800's through to modern day. I have also made each story line unique with their plotlines by using situations from my own personal experiences. Some of my work is romantic with light sensual sex scenes, and some are featured with stronger explicit sex scenes and coarse language to intensify the drama. I prefer to give my readers a wider selection of choice; we are all different in what we like to read.
3.5 This book is better than book 1. Jillian, bless her heart, continues to get screwed (figuratively speaking) in the beginning. The so-called love of her life has moved to a different continent and has a new chick. However, this new detective she is forced to work with may turn things around. The mystery in this story is good, but it's the romance that keeps me reading.
One thing that I found disappointing was Philippa. I knew when I heard open relationship that somehow there was going to be trouble. It seemed that all these women basically lied to Jillian. I also saw that Jillian had a blind spot to whereas she did not see something for what they were in her relationships. Philippa took the cowards way out and so did Karen. No one learned anything from their respective and mutual pasts.
I do like the crime focus part of the series. The murders in this book was just senseless. The murders in the first book was just so gruesome and highly disturbing.
I like the cast of characters and their own brand of dramas. DS Pierce just couldn’t get it right. Holly, Freya, and others helped round things out.
My complaints? It could have ended better with Philippa. She could have had a little more contact with Karen. I didn’t understand Jean. What happens next with Olivia and Jillian. And where did the girl go in Jillian’s life?
The author has a way of making you feel you are right there in every scene. Her description of the people, the settings and the events makes it very gripping and the writing flows comfortable. The killer appears to be too clever for them until they received a tip plus an unwelcome help arrives. Reluctantly they must solve the murder together. Along the way they have to deal with personal troubles and trying to find their way with each other. The plot twisted in unexpected ways. The interaction between the team members are very enjoyable, their banter makes you laugh. Actions are solid and well prepared. At the end there was a surprise and I didn't see that coming. My hope is that this story will be continued and I'm definitely looking forward to that.
