When I first saw this book I jumped right on the list to read and review it. Who does not want to learn how to have success with stress right? This was a very quick book to read. In fact I read it in less than two hours. I think I will let what I read sink in a little and probably read it again a second time in a few days. For me it started out a little slow as I was not sure I was going to like it as it had some definitions of stress and what I would call sciency things. But I kept reading and I ended up linking it and it gave me some food for thought. To start with it talked about some symptoms of chronic stress - a few of which I do have and I know for a fact at least one if not more are caused by my stress - like my acid reflux. I know this because stress makes my flare up even more. Then the author goes into had to have success with your stress and dealing with it. In going through each of these strategies the author gives you two questions to answer at the end of each chapter. The five strategies are 1. get clear, 2. give up control 3. say what you mean, 4. honor yourself and others and 5. be in the moment. I also learned from reading this book that I tend to hedge which means I do no say what I mean instead I tend to say I don't know, maybe or we'll see when people ask me questions or ask me to do things. This is something I will have to work on. Like I said I want to read this again only take a little more time to think about the questions that the author asks. I am glad I gave this book a chance.

Life is too short and we should not let stress affects us

This book is so short. You can finished reading it in a short period of time. Though the book is short but the information that will help anybody is very helpful.

I read this book for my husband. I want to help him with his stress. It affects me as his wife. He is so stress about his work. I know that he cannot wait to retire very soon. He has few years left before his agony at work would be over.

I learned one very important lesson from this book is communication. It is the most vital to deal with stress. You have to communicate and let go of that emotion that stressed you out. I know that is easy to say than done.

Growing up poor, stress is out of our concern. We deal with tough situation that it does not bother us. When I am stress or have any problems, I pray to God, pour my emotions out to Him. My best remedy for stress is music. I listened to music and sing.

This is the second book from Jae Ellard's series of self-help books that I have had a chance to read and review. I enjoyed her first book "The Five Truths About Work-Life Balance" and was interested to read another one in the series.

She begins with defining what stress is and that most kinds of stress can be traced to issues concerning not communicating properly with others as well as not respecting our personal boundaries. She then gives a bit of a scientific background on how the chemicals in our brain and body react to different types of stress.

A subheading "5 Strategies for Success with Stress" gives practical advice on how to accept the elements in your life that are truly causing you stress and how to deal with them. We also learn how eliminating multitasking can decrease our stress level.

A small, easy-to-read book with a lot of practical suggestions. Just a quick note, the quote on page 67: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is not an old adage. It is found in the Bible in Luke 6:31 "“Also, just as you want men to do to you, do the same way to them" (NWT). I found it paradoxical that the book uses both the theory of evolution in the beginning of the book as well as a Biblical quote as a basis for her advice.

This brief treatment on what stress is and how it affects human life is an excellent introduction to this topic under the broader area of self care. I feel this book would be a valuable addition to any high school curriculum.

Stress is generally perceived as negative strain. The sources are varied and infinite.
How an individual perceives and reacts to stress is more important than the originating source.
This book addresses stress and responses in small bits, offering practical and effective ways to reduce it's negative impact on one's life.

To some this may appear overly simplistic, yet the topic is well covered and explained.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

Success With Stress is a short but sensible book that explains that stress is actually a necessary function of our bodies but chronic stress is not only unhealthy but it can even lead to death. It can cause a multitude of health problems including high blood pressure, anxiety, ulcers and more.

Jae Ellard gives Five Strategies for Success with Stress. They're great strategies and anyone who follows them should be able to handle stress in a constructive way. My husband unknowingly follows these strategies and handles everything that's thrown our way very well. That attitude rubs off on others, too.

I recommend this book for anyone who is in a stressful job, deals with a lot of stress at home, or who doesn't handle stress well.

Success With Stress Should be Read Differently. Initially, I was surprised that the book held so much blank space. The author keeps things pretty simple. A page is dedicated to a thought or a simple idea. She asks the reader a lot of questions--and sometimes a question may be the only content of a page. I read the book from cover to cover in about 40 minutes and sat there feeling a little "let down". What did I miss? I missed the opportunities to actually consider each page and each thought of the book. So. After the first reading--I decided to read it again--as more of a workbook than a traditional book. I knew what the author's content was about--it was time to apply it. I began reading again--page by page--answering the questions, making notes and actually working through the author's ideas as they apply to my life. I found the blank space useful for making notes, highlighting ideas, and working through my thoughts.

Would I recommend Success with Stress by Jae Ellard? This book is short, concise, straight to the point, easy to read and offers realistic, practical suggestions for readers. Everyone's path to finding success with stress is different and this book really does allow readers to customize their reading experience. It is just necessary to slow down and consider how the author's thoughts and suggestions apply to the reader's personal situation. If you aren't a fan of writing inside your books, as I did, jot things down in a notebook or journal. (The giveaway below is for both the book and a companion notebook!) I would recommend this book to someone seeking to root out the basics of stress and apply some simple techniques and practices toward personal stress management.

In today's society, stress is a major fact in each of our lives. Stress is not all bad! This "handy" little book, helps one to decide if he/she is in control of his/her stress level or is the stress controlling in control of him/her. Furthermore, it helps one to know how to be the one to control it!
I particularly liked the statement, "When experiencing stress, do you react or respond?"
Included in this book are things individual's do to void stress but ends up causing greater stress in one's own life.
There are plenty of places within the book where one, can either keep a journal or make notations of both. If each individual would follow these guideline's closely, hiss/her life would be mostly stress-free, and would ease the stress of one's associates, as well.
With no excess wording, this book is concise, to the point and easily understood. It could only improve by adding a few more examples.
This earns a Strong Four Stars.
This was gifted me but I was not compelled to offer appositive review. This is my honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised with the workbook style book, with lots of white space for my thoughts and reflections.

The best part of the book for me was the clarity of thought of the author, expressed with so much simplicity, and how it strikes at the root of stress very early on. Sample this powerful statement:
Most stress can be traced to communication - or lack of it - back to the conversations we are not having or are too scared to have about what we value, and/or a lack of boundaries to protect those values.

It brought to mind a quote of George Bernard Shaw's I came across for the first time the other day. He said, in his own inimitable style : The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.  And I found both this statement and the book resonating so strongly for me. Much of my stress used to come from dysfunctional relationships - the ones in which I assumed that the other would understand me. Now I've learned to communicate more clearly and it makes relating with people so much easier and less stressful.

The 5 strategies that Jae suggests we can beat stress with call for reflection on our values, invite us to be authentic and above all to honor ourselves. Since authenticity and honoring myself are areas that I have long being working on, I could see the value of this.

I am completely in agreement with Jae's philosophy of succeeding with stress and would recommend this book to anyone struggling to reduce stress in their lives.

One of the tings I truly loved about Success With Stress by Jae Ellard is the fact that the book was around one hundred pages. The length of the book was perfect for a few hours of reading and learning about stress. As a psychology student I found this book to be particularly interesting. I also found it very helpful because my class just began a unit on stress and I was able some of the information from this book in my forum postings. I liked the fact that the author focused on how to live with stress in order to have the best life a person can have. I found many of the ideas to be interesting enough that I plan to try and incorporate them into my own life.

FTC DISCLOSURE: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. Receiving the book did not influence my opinions in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

From a mental health professional's standpoint, this book could have gone into much more detail about stress management techniques. That being said, however, Success with Stress does provide some good information on stress management. I really like that the author poses a couple of questions for reflection after discussing each stress management technique. I feel this is a good basic book for relieving stress. The book is short enough that you can read it in a couple of sittings if you'd like as well.
