Dana Meachen Rau is an author, editor, and illustrator of children's books. She has written more than 100 books for children, many of them nonfiction in subjects including astronomy, history, and geography, as well as numerous biographies. She lives in Burlington, Connecticut, with her husband and two children.

This is an interesting and informative book about cats. The basics of selecting and caring for a cat is paired with a listing of ten popular cat breeds. I liked that they explained the benefits of adopting a shelter pet and the wonderful character of common domestic cats, which are more likely to be found at shelters.

Our oldest found this book at her elementary school library and was very diligent about listing the characteristics of her favorite breeds. She was very enthusiastic about learning more about cats - I just wish she was more enthusiastic about cleaning litter boxes. :) Overall, we enjoyed reading this book together.

Having trouble choosing a pet. This book can help. It helps kids (and parents) realized the work involved in having a pet cat. It also gives pointers on what type of cat may be best for your home. Definitely a must read if you're thinking about bringing a new kitty home.

This book introduced cat breeds. There weren't any tips about caring for them though.
