When Fitzwilliam Darcy returns to Pemberley, he expects to be all alone. So when he discovers Elizabeth Bennet, along with her sisters, Lydia and Kitty, trespassing in his woods, he treats them with the harshness they deserve. And when Caroline Bingley arrives on the scene, Elizabeth finds herself with a dilemma much greater than her two mischievous sisters—she has fallen in love with the proud Mr. Darcy, the one man she vowed never to marry!
Okay, this book had me in a bit of a twist. At first I felt like I was in some strange comedic Twilight Zone melding P&P with the Marx Bros in a Monty Python skit. Slowly, the plan came together -- Lydia and Kitty's plan, that is. They were Harpo and Chico, and Lizzy was definitely Groucho in her first few interactions with Darcy!
The girls are in Lambton with the Gardiners, and keep appearing at Pemberley, first to Darcy's consternation and indignation, then to his delight. Caroline arrives unexpectedly, tricks Darcy into throwing a fancy dinner, and as he does not want her as hostess, turns to Lizzy and Aunt G. There are, as usual, misonceptions between ODC, but the younger girls manage to meddle enough to get them to their HEA.
If you need a good giggle or chuckle, and are not afraid of off canon storylines, or out of character characterizations, give this a go.
All I needed was to find Jeeves lurking in the pantry. Hodges has (and this is my second reading...and it lifted my rating from 2 to 4 stars) has cast Darcy as a Regency Bertie Wooster with Kitty and Lydia schemers in this delightful comedy of manners. Some of the rattling dialogue reminded me of Noel Coward, particularly the early equine miscues. Quick read although the ending was too Pat. Would have loved to add a sardonic Thomas Bennet to the mix.
Cute, short story imaging if Kitty, Lydia, and Lizzy went with the Gardiner's on holiday. The younger girls plot to set up Elizabeth and Darcy and succeed, of course. I enjoyed the concept even though it was awkward. The text of the conversation was sometimes very hard to follow.
The main characters were a little off character. Conflicts appears to be made to just have conflicts. Too many conversations, am not sure it was important to the story... Seems made to just prolong the story. I was bored and after 51% of the book read, had to scroll forward.
A disappointment. This book has Lizzy "almost as tall as Darcy" that alone made me unhappy. Lydia and Kitty were "playing" in the wood of pemberley is where the story starts, their petulant behavior might have been written as an attempt at humor, but fails miserably. Lizzy and her aunt Gardiner are planning a dinner at Pemberley (which is ridiculously out of character) all the while Darcy is "falling in love" with Lizzy. . The plot is random and does not tell a story very well.
This is t the strangest P & P book I have ever read, & not in a good way! This book made Darcy & Mrs Reynolds look incompetent! What a joke. Besides throwing in a few fragments, like Mr Gardner's health? What was that??? I'm sorry but don't waste your money! I really hate giving a bad review!
While an interesting concept of matchmaking schemes by the younger Bennett sister's, I just could not finish this story. Characters seem like brand new ones with new attitudes and some of the dialogue was hard to follow.
