The Idiot's Guide to Self-Esteem

.

Ron Emerson has dreamed of being a rock star or a famous composer since learning to play guitar at eight years old, but somehow life got in the way. To support his young family, he takes a music teacher job at the local high school. After years of living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to make ends meet, Ron and his young daughter, Julia, are dealt a terrible blow in the sudden loss of Cindy, mother and wife. That blow includes a monumental hospital bill which their insurance only partly covers.

Fired from his music teacher job at Jefferson High, and facing massive bills, Ron turns to the one person he'd sworn he would never under any circumstances turn his ethically challenged but improbably successful Uncle Fred, proud owner of a piano restoration business and author of such past business ventures as a chinchilla farm, high-priced escort service, and a marijuana grow-op.

Now Fred makes an offer that Ron can't refuse, despite his better managing a gravel yard and landscaping business.

As a classic fish out of water – or perhaps stranger in a strange land – Ron navigates law suits, obnoxious customers, an obsessive old lady, a new love, and the Mexican cartel before finally turning to the one thing he's never his childhood dream of becoming a professional musician.
