A disappointing novel because its premise was encouragingly creative. Set in the late Reagan Admin with conspiracy theory and science fiction intertwined with eco-anarchy theme, it was a romp for 80% of the book. Unfortunately the ending was weak and unconvincing.

Wallace is a naturalist who wrote a wonderful book called The Klamath Knot and has also written 2 "eco-thrillers." The Vermillion Parrot is set in some familiar places and has an element of sci-fi (not so much my thing), but it is fast paced and amusing. A nice break from The Nightingales, which is a bit ponderous.

Random, rambling adventure through CA's Central Coast & Mexico's Copper Canyon. Sci-fi critters. Unlikely rafting. No ending. All told, likely improved by hometown herb, were I a consumer of same.
