This is a Harlequin American Romance. The basic plot is that a small town pharmacist who’s life is boringly set for her encounters or should I saw crashes into the rich and famous Hollywood actor/movie star/race car driver/rich arse businessman H and sure enough sparks fly and we the readers are taken into a sweet, sometimes funny ride to their HEA finish line.
Another book that is a tiny bit different from what I usually read – vintage Harlequin Presents with super angst/drama, insane OW or OM. “Suddenly, Love” is a nice book to read on a rainy day – not that I read it on a rainy day. The summary I put above is really what the book is about – how two characters from different backgrounds and personalities meet by chance and they try or should I say the H does his darnedest to make the h his and that they can be together despite their differences.
The H in this one is described to be a blonde, puppy boy, not conventionally handsome but extremely attractive – a million dollar face and body, someone who you would look once then suddenly twice and even more because there is something just intriguing about him – you get the picture. In my head you could say he’s like a Brad Pitt maybe?? Truth be known, I like my hero tall, dark and handsome. I’m not really into blondies but that’s just my preference. I’m alright with the H. I thought it was absolutely sweet that he seemingly fell head over heels for the h – not that he knew it at that time, and was doing his best to get her despite the h’s efforts to fend him off. Personality wise, he just seems happy, no lingering trauma to darken his character and enjoyed racing, speed, acting and it seemed parties too. Like I said, I’m not used to this H (I like them dark and controlling and all that hahaha) but to reiterate H was a sweetie. I plan to re-read this book again because I had to skimread a bit since it was really late at night so I might have missed a few things about the H. However what I was a tiny bit annoyed/confused about the H was despite his seemingly cheery personality I felt he still hid some of his true personality from the h. Even the h herself was confused by him because there were a few instances where the H used his “acting skills” to trick the h about certain things about himself. But maybe I missed the nuances due to skimreading so I’ll have to re-read this book again.
As for the h I liked her. She had her nice little future set out with her childhood friend/fiancé. And she was very rattled and overwhelmed by the H. I kinda thought the h was a little starstruck and being walked over “a bit” by the H’s overt character but she did show a bit of resistance and tried her darnedest to fight off the H. You get a little of drama/angst 75% into the book. Some of you may not like the fact that she seemingly “cheated” with the H. I don’t mean they did the deed but more of the handholding, kissing type but I wasn’t too bothered by it. Heck the h was no match for Mr. Hollywood/race car superstar etc. H!
Which brings to the OM. Awwww what sweet, loyal man the OM was. I do feel for the h and the OM. As a backstory, the OM and h were best friends, childhood friends, even their first kisses if I’m not mistaken. They grew up together believing they will end up together in the future . The h even says that even though she or even he may have dated other people when they were younger/highschool because that’s how growing up/life was, OM and h both knew eventually they would still end up together. And that was what their relationship was based on sweetness, first love, familiarity and friendship. And then H comes storming into her life LOL. The OM is really sweet and even gives the h space to “understand” her feelings and attraction to the H and that he will be waiting for her when it ends (cause OM thought it was just something that the h needed to get off her system and that H was just fooling around with her/excitement etc) But anyhoo, you know that scene was the death knell. But I was sad for the OM and h. If this was another book I’d root for them. There’s also a subplot with the h’s nephew (he was a piece of work, I hated him but ya know I guess he did redeem himself later I guess…… still don’t like him)
But anyhoo I did enjoy reading this book and taking a break from my usual books. It was a sweet story. The HEA was somewhat believable but given their difference in background I think their HEA might have just a tiny bit bumps in the road but I got faith in the H coz he is one persistent mofo LOL! (I use that word as a joke and he really isn’t one) So yeah, so long as the H continues on with his persistent ways this should reassure the sometimes no confidence h that h you are the one only for Mr. Superstar :) 3.25/3.50 stars
Elizabeth Greene - aka Beth - was content with her sedate life in Virginia Beach as a pharmacist with a tranquil daily routine and family. Everything changed though when one gloomy Sunday morning she caught cold and sneezed while driving and almost killed THE famous Corey Fletcher, who was not only a racing driver for Formula One, but also an actor, a multimillionaire businessman, a one-million dollar commercial-face man and a playboy! She tried to simply give him first aid after the accidents, but his aim was much higher! He wanted her wholly and completely! And he certainly succeeded in disturbing her life like no other! He shocked her in every possible way! Even in front of her father and her soon to be fiance!!
A delicious book to read. It's my first experience of reading an American Romance and I enjoyed it. Beautiful strong, but vulnerable characters and plausible smooth events. Recommended read.
