received a copy of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected how I read the book.

What a fascinating novel: pure science fiction at every level. I can't think of a novel that works its way through every consequence of a premise like this one does. It's so detailed, complex, and has fantastic characters you'll love to follow.

When Derek signs up for an experimental drug treatment, he never expects to have his entire DNA changed. Soon, he's able to experience out of body travels, and begins to develop abilities that stretch far beyond what is normal. Heck, he isn't even human anymore...
After Allie contracts these same changes from him, the two of them are suddenly the only two people of their kind, and they're hunted by everyone who wants to get their hands on this human enhancing 'drug'. No one is safe: not Derek or Allie, nor their families, their friends... as the two fall in love with each other, they must fight the mob and angry governments in order to keep themselves, and everyone they love, safe from harm.

I can't decide what I liked best about this book. As a scifi nerd, I absolutely the science behind it all. There was just so much in this book, and small, real sources and facts to back it all up. Do you remember the movie 'Lucy'? This is how that movie could have succeeded. Humans outgrowing their humanity and becoming something more: backed by (somewhat feasible) science, and a thrilling plot that has you caring for them all the way through, urging them to succeed.

What marked me was, even as Derek and Allie stop being human, they never lose their humanity. They care so much about their families. This determination not only to care for their own, but to make the world a better place along the way, makes them incredibly likable. As they grow into their new abilities, they're supportive of each other, and work through the hard times together. It makes them both relatable and lovable.

Surprisingly, all the 'background' characters have so much depth as well. From the mobster grandfather to the Hawaiian boyfriend, everyone has an intricate story to tell. When they were in trouble, you want to save them as quick as possible; while, when they were happy, you feel energized and excited for them.

The novel also deals with questions such as parallel universes and timelines; building and creating a society or civilization; making big bucks with stocks; Souls and Spirit Realms; and the Russian mob, too. As you can tell, there's a whole lot going on!

All in all, if you need a good, complex science fiction novel, then you're going to want to read The God Virus. It's a fantastic, thrilling story which is incredibly memorable. Scifi fans everywhere are going to want to read more!

I loved it. Somehow the author managed to combine the elements of so multiple genres into one book yet it worked perfectly. I picked it up to read the sci fi combined with the medical thriller aspects and was pleasantly surprised by how he was able to add in humor, love, mobsters, spirituality, chaos and corruption and more all wrapped up into a series of exciting adventures, never knowing what would come next. He created characters (& their equivalent person in multiple times and also parallel universes) that you just wanted to cheer for in every new situation that arose. So refreshing to see people given such super power and use it for the benefit of society and goodness rather than selfishness and evil. Will be looking forward to seeing where the next novel leads them. Be prepared once you pick it up to want to read it all at once.

I loved this book. It is science fiction, fantasy and comedy all rolled into one. It is about an average Joe involved in a drug experiment with an evolutionary biological reaction. It even is caught as a virus by a few friends and relatives. The mafias get involved as does the CIA. I would like to see the book get turned in to a movie. I think it would be very sucessful.

I received a print copy of The God Virus from the author for review. Editorial note: I see other reviewers state that they were given a book in exchange for an honest review. I don't recall ever being offered a book in exchange for a dis-honest review. Just wanted to say that since I don't make such declarations anymore.

Author Indigo Voyager (that's what my copy says) has created an excellent story of fantasy, suspense, crime, politics, government, academia and family. This book is just great!

I have seen three different covers for this book. One of which identifies the author as Justin Smith, the person I received the book from. I do like my cover best and I think it may be the first, and the author can call themselves anything they like. You'll see the connection between the story and Indigo Voyager when you read the book.

The story starts with an experimental drug trial and develops into a wild ride as the main characters try to stabilize an out of control situation.

The story deals with the creation of a superhuman hybrid. Of course everyone. good and bad, wants to control them. We see the positive and negative aspects of having such beings in "regular" society. The new humans are just short of indestructible and omnipotent. Fortunately for us the new hybrids are basically good people. I like this format; fantasy that still operates within a realistic format. This makes characters and situations more believable.

The suspense builds as the story progresses. The whole situation grows more and more complex as more people learn about the hybrids.

The story is well balanced between violence and tenderness, drama and humor, good and bad. The God Virus by Indigo Voyager (that's what my copy says) is a fantastic start to this series. I look forward to reading more. Give this book a look, I think you will like it. Enjoy!

I have classed it as romance as well as sci-fi. It did not feel like a romance at all, though it is a big part of the book. Another thing to bare in mind is the style, the Author has structured most of the book in small paragraphs.

With the main characters being able to move about the way they do, the story jumps a lot. There is no way around this, it how the story has many layers and different storylines happening at the same time. I didn’t find it confusing considering what was going on. The number of different characters and names I did find confusing. About halfway through I gave up trying to keep track of who was who when more characters were added. I am dyslexic so I found it near impossible to keep track.

I just really liked how it played out, how the story advanced and was structured. They didn’t really hide who they had become, which is a pleasant change from most stories with people who have abilities.

What an imagination Justin R. Smith has! Or, can the characters' adventures in the God Virus be possible? I hope not, but it seems that many authors have the ability to envision the future or the possibilities. I've heard of people having out of body experiences, but this takes it to another level that I hope and pray can never be. The story in "The God Virus" touches on just about everything - superpowers, fantasy, romance, bad guys, good guys, past, future and alternate dimensional lives - all because of an experimental pill that Derek takes in the hope to help his depression. Life drastically changes for Derek and the people around him. This story will take you away from your everyday reality and send you into another world.
Just a note, the cover of our book is different than what is shown.

When Derek, the main character, signs up for an experimental drug he doesn’t expect it to change his DNA or give him powers that elevate him to the next level of human – an Indigo. He also doesn’t expect his new qualities will react like a virus, infecting his girlfriend Allie. Naturally this has caught the attention of the mob (Allie’s family, by the way) and various governments who would like to use the evolutionary drug for their own purposes. The characters are well-developed and through all the elevation don’t lose their humanity or basic good nature as they astral project, heal from fatal injury, visit parallel universes and travel through time.

I liked the story, but felt there was all little too much attention to restaurants, meals eaten and sites seen that tended to pull me away from the sci-fi/fantasy elements.

Worth the read and quite entertaining.

Very suspenseful and entertaining

This book is what great writing is all about.. It's the kind of book that you can't put down until finished. It has all of the elements that make for a great and suspenseful thriller. I certainly hope the author comes out with a sequel.

Magical realism at its best. This book is a metaphysical thriller.

There’s something fascinating about a science fiction story that includes mobsters and romance. The God Virus by Indigo Voyager provides this combination as well as other tantalizing details. The book starts off full blast and is instantly engaging.
Derek Evans, is an attractive young man who has moved to New York from Maine. Recovering from a broken heart, and left with nothing but a cat named Norton, Derek is suffering from depression. When the offer of trying a new investigational drug arises, he decides to give it a try. After all, what has he got to lose? After accepting the pill from Harry Pembroke he begins to have strange experiences. Suddenly Derek is able to travel around, leaving his body behind. It turns out the so-called depression drug actually contains a virus that alters Derek’s DNA. On one of his first “trips” he finds himself in Pembroke’s study. But Pembroke is not alone. Not only can Derek travel out of body, he can also read the thoughts and memories of other people. As he overhears both the spoken conversation and the thoughts of Pembroke and the man he learns is a Russian mobster named Baranov, he realizes the drug he has taken is not an anti-depressant. What happens next sets the stage for an adventure that is sometimes confusing but never boring.
Returning to his job at Enigmatic Adventures, a company that creates video games, he attempts to keep control of his life. Soon he becomes involved with a co-worker, Alessandra Giancana (Allie G). He soon learns Allie has a unique family connection; her grandfather is a mobster. And she learns of his newfound special skill.
What follows is an amazing mixture of a love story, science fiction adventure, crime, and a flavor of fantasy. The main characters are well developed and the lesser characters are given enough depth to keep them interesting. Derek and Allie explore world’s other than their own, both spiritual and alternate realities. As they are pursued by the criminals who seek to acquire the virus for their own nefarious purposes and intelligence groups that want to capture them to use them, the craziness grows in leaps and bounds. While the story lags in some spots with some unnecessary details, overall this is a fun book. There are a few missing words here and there but not enough to detract from my enjoyment of the story.
