Kavita Devgan has many avatars: she is a writer, nutritionist and weight management consultant who has transformed the lives of hundreds of clients seeking weight loss. She is a feted speaker and a popular health columnist with premier media groups. She has been writing extensively and sharing her ideas with lakhs of people for the last 15 years.
We rarely take self-help and cooking mix books, but when we find gems from well-known Dietrician, Nutrition or Chefs we don't say no. Because with the level of their expertise & exposure, they can share many interesting ingredients & recipes. Kavita's last book that we read was "Ultimate Grandmother's Hack". We learned many quick & try-able recipes. So our bar of expectations was pretty high for "Don't Diet".
I think "Don't Diet" is Kavita's first book. I found content preparation wonderful. Instead of delivering a slow paced boring self-help manual, she has used interactive approach. She has divided content in 2 chunks. The first chunk of 50 habits takes 80% of the portion. Kavita has wonderfully compiled 50 healthy habits into 3 sections in the first chunk. Mental/Mind related habits. Dietary related habits. Lifestyle-related habits. Out of 50 habits, 30 are dedicated to dietary. Though the second chunk is divided into 3 parts, I have clubbed them under one group due to the nature of sections. That section helps us to make our daily journal & keep track of our progress.
In short, consider this book as your consultant. Get 2 diaries and start your journey of getting fit (not slim). Things that I liked about the book 1. Nice content preparation 2. Short chapters. Author has mentioned you can skip a chapter if you don't like it. 3. Illustrations to increase interest portion 4. Not at all looks like a self-help book
I must confess that I added this book to my reading list almost a year ago but only got around to finishing it today.
There comes a time when books make their way into your life and for me, 'Don't Diet' ticked all the boxes. I've been reading more on the concept of the anti-inflammation way of eating as well as cutting out processed and packaged foods, so this book came back to me at the right time.
I've started keeping a food diary (am not really counting calories) as a mindful exercise when it comes to determining what I eat daily, how it makes me feel and how I can improve on it. It's incredible how instinctively we tend to reach for quick fixes and junk food if we aren't mindful. It's too soon to say that it's transformational, but the food log definitely helps.
I'm not using any app; Just a document on Google Drive that I update everyday.
Kavita breaks it all down into actionable tips. From fitness to nutrition to recipes that you can follow. Let's not forget the importance of sleep. (Nothing is a miracle cure or an overnight fix and that's what I enjoyed about the book the most). Reminds me of the power of the compounding effect as explained in Atomic Habits by James Clear.
I especially liked this book because it's focused on the Indian context. We need more books that cater to our indigenous foods and palates because it's easier to adapt to them than trying to work in unusual food items that may not be available to us all.
Must read book, if you're looking to become healthier and stronger.
In "Don't Diet" the author suggests NOT to diet. The book focuses on those healthy habits that thin people tend to follow. The book encloses several interesting things and covers various aspects of weight management.
The best thing about this book is author's friendly and assuring voice. The writing style is light and doesn't seem preaching. The book suggests you to go slow and make easy lifestyle changes. You'll find many different and interesting recipes and easy to do workouts.
In my opinion, this book is a must-have for those who aim for losing weight/staying thin/maintaining healthy and positive lifestyle.
Kavita's book is a refreshing one of its kind books on healthy ways of losing weight. Fun to read, filled with easy and practical tips, the book can motivate anyone and everyone to lose weight. The book breaks many myths about dieting and takes a holistic approach to losing and maintaining weight. Kavita's personal and free flowing style of writing makes its seem as if a friend is talking to you through the book.

Very good book ..Gives you facts with no beating around the bush. This book gave me the idea to use Stairs in my break times in office which turns out to be a great total body workout if you wanna reduce weight.
"Learn the importance of staying healthy without compromising on your diet" with kavita devgan's DONT DIET. she has righly curated how to live a healthy happy life without getting into stupid diets that certainly spoils your body on a later stage.
