Getting Right With God, Yourself, and Others: The Journey Begins, Participant's Guide 3: A Recovery Program Based on Eight Principles from the Beatitudes
The Celebrate Recovery Participant’s Guides are essential tools for the personal recovery journey. In the seven lessons in Guide 3: Getting Right with God, Yourself, and Others , you will move through principles 5-7 of the recovery 5 O penly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to someone I trust. "Happy are the pure in heart" (Matthew 5:8). 6 V oluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires" (Matthew 5:6). 7 E valuate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others. "Happy are the merciful" (Matthew 5:7). "Happy are the peacemakers" (Matthew 5:9). By working through the lessons and exercises found in each of the four Participant’s Guides you will begin to experience the true peace and serenity you have been seeking, restore and develop stronger relationships with others and with God, and find freedom from life's hurts, hang-ups, and habits. All the scriptures have been updated to the new NIV 2011 version.
The third workbook in the Celebrate Recovery series. Excellent. They're becoming increasingly applicable. I love the versatility of these books! They're helpful for everything recovery related and even helpful if you're working through them to gain an empathetic viewpoint.
I took off one star just because I've worked far enough through my own recovery process of sexual assault that some of the material isn't totally relevant to my healing at this point. Still so good!
It has been 4 years since I went through the CR program. It was absolutely life changing! I have felt the need for a bit of a refresher course so I'm glad the workbooks are available through Amazon. I will say though that if you haven't been through the program, you need to find a local church that runs one. It's vitally important to go through with others. This is not a solitary journey. Also, CR isn't just for people dealing with substance abuse issues. It's for ANYONE dealing with hurts, hangups or habits - which is pretty much everyone!
Book Three finishes up the fourth principle: Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust. "Happy are the pure in heart.” Matthew 5:8a TEV. And goes on through principles five and six: (5) Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. “Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires” Matthew 5:6a TEV; (6) Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when to do so would harm them or others. “Happy are the merciful.” Matthew 5:7a TEV; “Happy are the peacemakers” Matthew 5:9 TEV.
The fifth through ninth steps of the twelve steps are also dealt with: 5. We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16a NIV; 6. We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10 NIV; 7. We humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV; 8. We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 NIV; 9. We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24 NIV
This is book three of the four, this program has been game changing and life changing for real. I recommend everyone looking to improve in life go through this.
