Undaunted: Breaking My Silence to Overcome the Trauma of Child Sexual Abuse

Rate this book
The Jerry Sandusky case had little to do with football and everything to do with the insidious danger that comes from those we willingly hand our children over to because we trust them. In this unflinching memoir Matthew Sandusky reveals the silent victimization that continues across this country and around the world, not by "stranger danger" but by those we admire, know and trust.

"I also think it is important to understand that we alone get to define our value. As survivors we don't have to believe the dogma of what we are supposed to be or how we are supposed to act. We certainly do not have to believe the message the offenders gave us that our minds and our hearts and our wishes didn't matter - and that all that mattered was our bodies' usefulness for their gratification. We are the ones who get to decided who we are and what our value is."

It's so difficult for me to rate this book because the message is so incredibly important and powerful, even though this book isn't as polished as I'd love for it to be due to its independent publishing. It could certainly have used more editing, as parts were very redundant and dry, and there were several typos throughout. However, when able to look past these parts, I'm so inspired by Matt's ability to come forward with his story in such a brave way.
