This rare collection of early Irish plays reflects a change in perception of Irishness amongst the immigrant English in Ireland. Each playwright receives an introduction and each play is annotated with explanations of allusions and archaic words. Plays included are Henry Burnell's Langartha (1639), Richard Head's Hic et Ubique, or, The Humours of Dublin (1663), Thomas Sheridan's The Brave Irishman (1755) and John O'Keeffe's The Poor Soldier and the Wicklow Mountains.
