Harrison, the brash heroine believes the shallow world of modeling and celebrity can make her feel whole, less invisible. She does not stop her ruthless climb, pretend to be someone she is not. Deeply flawed, she falls flat on her face, unapologetic. When she arrives at the vapid, solitude of success, she's faced with a choice. She rediscovers strength, courage and hope, through the unbreakable bonds of friendship and love. The Vast Landscape is a life-affirming, in your face, multi-faceted rough diamond.
Jaqueline Cioffa writes with such a soul stirring intensity that it can't help but ignite a passion in her readers. I took my time with this book, and I loved every single moment of it. Harrison is beautiful in her strength and vulnerability. She spoke to me in ways that a character never has. I felt like I knew Harry, and could understand everything she reckoned with.
Thank you, Jacqueline Cioffa for writing an outstanding and brilliant book. This story and these characters will always be part of my life.
The Vast Landscape is both beautifully written, and deeply meaningful. This book is a 5 star highly recommended book, one that holds a special place on my bookshelf, and one that I will read over and over again.
**I won this book in an online contest and was not asked to write a review** However, I absolutely adore the story. Jacqueline Cioffa's writing is so incredibly lyrical and beautiful. I was drawn into the novel from the very first page, and never wanted to stop reading it. In fact, were it not for life's distractions, I'm sure I would've read it straight through. The character of Harrison is absolutely unforgettable. In many ways, she's the woman I wish I could be: strong, adventurous, and compassionate too. She's the type of person that other people instinctively love, and yet, she's humble and grateful and kind. This is the type of book you don't want to end. I feel very lucky to have also won the sequel, Georgie Pine, in the contest, because now I can read that!
This story was quite the ride it was raw and full of emotions, doubts, mistrusts, fame, love and it was like following a train wreck as it goes down the track. Harrison the female lead character, in this story refers to herself in the 3rd person throughout the book, which I do not see often. I would say it is not the type of story I read often but it was engaging and kept me wanting to see what happened, as her life and priorities changed. The author has a great writing style, which is straight forward and honest. I see there is a sequel to this story.
Jacqueline Cioffa's debut novel "The Vast Landscape" is incredibly well-crafted, at times reading like prose poetry. Cioffa's writing style is vivid and highly descriptive. Her intimate knowledge of the modeling and celebrity worlds lends an authentic voice to the details of her protagonist's life. She develops her characters with great insight and sensitivity. Particularly enjoyed the ending. I look forward to reading her sequel novel "Georgia Pine."
I received this as a free ebook. I don't think I've ever read a book that as the main character aged, the style of writing become more mature. I found the beginning hard to get into, but at some point, I was hooked. Great delivery of a coming of age story!
I loved the way Jacqueline portrayed Harry. A character I could totally relate too. This book takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride. It's fun, telling, sad, and gloriously happy. This book is one that I will read again, and again.
