Third Black Bat novel has Tony Quinn battling an insurance scam outfit that uses mass murder to collect on life insurance policies. Exciting if perhaps a little over-involved in the mechanics of the caper. Ever-faithful Slick faces more than his usual share of peril in this one. The facsimile copy I read from Radio Archives included two excellent short stories: "Just Take It Easy" is a first-person why-I-ended-up-in-prison story, while the second, "Through Train to Hell," has a stalwart G-Man single-handedly rescuing a train from a gang of murderous thieves.
Just as Batman came out, there was also another! The Black Bat! I really enjoyed it. The Black Bat and his trio are very likable characters and quite noble as well. I'm looking forward to reading more soon!
This is the second Black Bat novel I’ve read. As a huge Batman fan—I wrote my Master’s Thesis on Batman!—I wish I had known about this contemporary character sooner. It’s brilliant! Action, intrigue, excitement—this novel has it all!
Created and published around the same time as Batman both characters share a lot of similarities with The Shadow of the the same Pulp era. The Black Bat was blinded by criminals but not only regained his sight but also the ability to see in complete darkness. With the help of the agents he recruits he dons a bat like costume and fights crime. Good pulp reading. Very recommended
