Lawrence Schoonover (1906–1980) was an American novelist.
Born in Anamosa, Iowa, Schoonover attended the University of Wisconsin, then worked in advertising before becoming a novelist.
Lawrence Schoonver had four daughters with his wife, Gertrude Hedwig Bonn: Judith Hedwig (1940), Mary Elizabeth (1942), Caroline Grace (1944–2005), and Virginia (1946).
What a treasure! Schoonover writes to the reader with asides and digressions as in conversation. He is present to the reader. The story of Sir Walter Raleigh and the Elizabethan times is well researched and a thoroughly enjoyable read. I got the book through an interlibrary loan which came from many states away and although still in one piece, this is a forty-two year old book. I hope someone somewhere is preserving Schoonover work, and that more people who enjoy well done, intelligent historic fiction will find him.
