Malchus

On the week of Passover nearly 2000 years ago a slave of the High Priest of Jerusalem had an encounter with a very unusual man. In seeking this man and his followers he lost his right ear to an angry and much confused fisherman in an old olive grove. The object of his search restored his ear and changed his life as he has healed and changed so many other lives since then. Follow Malchus and try to imagine what it might have been like to have walked with him in Jerusalem during those very special days that changed his life and that of the world.

A wonderful examination of the last 3 days of Christ through the eyes of Caiaphas' servant, Malchus from the hours before his ear was sliced off by Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane, to the week after the crucifixion. I won't say character development, but rather C. G. Richardson's writing tries to portray what all the people the gospel specifically call out, from the disciples, Pilate, the Roman soldiers, the temple guards, and the Sanhedrin experienced and their reactions.

I loved reading this book, and enjoyed this description of the gospel message immensely.

A keeper

When my children were small, they were given some books about a girl who was able to visit the past. She witnessed Daniel in the lions den, Jonah in the big fish et all. This book is something like that but for adults. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will probably read it again and again. A bit of a keeper, as they say!

This was an interesting short story that takes you back to the days of Jesus crucifixion. I enjoyed the story, but the writer used a lot of cliche's that don't fit the time period and make them stand out and that pulled me out of the story a few times.

The story was good and I think if those hadn't been in there I would have given it 4 stars, but they pulled me out of the story enough that I just can't do that. It was well thought out and written well other than the cliche's, the characters are well developed and I can tell that the author has a good grasp on life at the time the story takes place.

I enjoyed the look into the what the followers of Christ faced in the days following His crucifixion and through the unique perspective of Malchus I thought this was a fresh view on those events. Overall it was a good read and I enjoyed it.

Malchus in his own words

As such a minor character in the Bible, Malchus is all but forgotten.
C. G. Richardson does an excellent job bringing this man to life while maintaining Scriptural and historical integrity.
