I found this book informative and helpful for the novice to the well established entrepreneur, business person. The tool sets provided are in-depth and allow an easy and understandable read that will help to set for a successful future in any industry. The Application Guide which can be downloaded as a pdf is a great addition to help walk through each chapter.

The first red flag in this was when he started talking about always having a positive attitude and seeing all the possibilities, but then said but don't stick your head in the sand.

Later he started talking about the importance of having standard operating procedures. Which is fair enough. However he then talked for ages about how if employees don't get behind the policys you should fire them. There was a brief sentence at the end saying it is important to have staff feedback on policys but that isn't the the impression left. Speaking as an employee who has worked for a number of companies over the years one of the biggest sources of workplace stress is this kind of attitude. And upper management bringing in policies like this that sound great on paper but are impossible to implement and firing or disciplining people who raise issues or concerns. The writer also has some unpleasant nicknames for employees who raise issues or in his words 'don't get behind these policy'.

Now granted I only got about half way through so maybe this comes up later. But employee satisfaction is barely mentioned. And if it is it's more in terms of introducing this will making employees happier. Rather than stressing the importance of working with employees not against them.

Basically just an advertisement for his consulting services, but if you're going to do it in the form of a book, at least get an editor. It's pretty clear Mautner is so full of himself that he thought he didn't need one, but there's a typo or error on almost every page.

simplistic

The ideas are solid, but only good for a novice start-up company with products. Basic premise os have good standard operating procedures, which I agree with. Just this was too simplified.

This was fine, some useful information but has a very 'advertisement' vibe about it.
