Yeshua Buddha: An Interpretation of the New Testament Theology as a Meaningful Myth

Jay Williams' approach to the study of the life of Christ simply overflows with intuitional creativity, permitting students to find for themselves trans-historical, yet new and existential situations in the Biblical story. Buddha means "the Enlightened One," and the author uses this word in the generic sense. He explores the possibility that Yeshua represents a way to enlightenment which is neither Western nor Eastern but universal and perennial, a way often misunderstood by Christian theologians.

The author presents views of Yeshua as a Buddha, or Enlightened One. Topics include the necessary dynamism of true myth, the wisdom of the Middle Path, aligning oneself with the Light to the exclusion of the ego, the superiority of agape over eros, transformation by enlightenment, the epehemeral and illusory nature of the world, the essence of the Logos light in all traditions, sacrament as koan, and the dangers of stagnant dogma. As the author notes, many of the concepts presented are not to be understood by theology, but pondered as mysteries. Much food for thought.
