I write as Elizabeth Quinn, but my name is Beth Quinn Barnard. I've made my living writing news and novels, and teaching journalism, fiction, and composition since 1976. A graduate of Skidmore College and Boston University, I've lived in Grants Pass, Oregon, since 1983 with my husband, Jeff Barnard, a reporter with the Associated Press. Our children, Nate and Nellie, are grown, but we made sure they were Red Sox fans before we set them free. I like to read, travel, hike, cook, ski and raft. I sing alto in a local community chorus and am having a blast remodeling our home room-by-room.

First book in the Alaska based series I have read and it will be my last. Was excited to discover the Lauren Maxwell series, having lived in SE Alaska for 30 years. But the author spends too little time on plot and character development to care. She does describe the unique beauty and challenges of life in SE Alaska, but not so I even recognize Hydaburg and Prince of Wales Island (both of which I have spent weeks visiting). There is far too much time spent describing in detail what the mother thinks about her kids playing sports and how the computer files can be resurrected.

Pretty standard cozy mystery-ish sort if a little darker than most. A little bit of good orca info.
