Rate this book
Forensic psychology plays an increasingly important role in criminal investigations and legal decision-making. A Forensic Psychology Casebook guides readers through the practical aspects of homicide cases across the entire criminal justice system, from the investigative process to the criminal trial process, and beyond. Each chapter contains a description and analysis of selected cases and offenders, and provides a crime narrative and offender narrative to illustrate the underlying theory and practical considerations of homicide investigations. Criminal justice students and practitioners alike will benefit from the comprehensive scope of this text. In order to ensure fair and efficient criminal justice practices in the field of forensic investigation, there is still a need for conformity and standardization of sound protocols and approaches based on improved knowledge and education. This book is part of that effort to understand homicidal behavior and offenders better in order to prevent similar crimes.

This proves to be a forensic-psychology survey textbook of sorts, basucally a collection of articles. Ranges from a frustrating overview of the different ways of scoring psychopaths -- in an article that lists all kinds of instruments, who developed them and who is allowed to use them without showing you the checklists themselves or what they actually measure -- to horrifyingly detailed descriptions of the crimes of homicidal necrophiles in an article that attempts to categorize them in a very hairsplitting way. Goes deeply into domestic-violence homicides, gay homicide, how interviewing children and the elderly needs to be different, and how to interview the mentally ill among many other topics covered. The editing needed work, honestly; there were whole words left out of sentences, some of which were really not sentences at all, and the misplaced commas verged on Shatneriffic. Lots to see in here!
